I was told to come here =)

Actually, I've had a profile here for a while, but never really posted until now...

I'm a 1st year art student in Calgary Alberta, but I hope to apply for Sheridan next year for their Illustration program.

As far as my nick goes.... it's just there so I have something unique to put in to my profile. Just call me FC.

Anyways, here's a sketch done in Painter using the Soft Charcoal tool. It's based on Natalie Portman's pose on the front of this week's Entertainment Weekly. I've edited it slightly from when I plugged it recently at Topcow Creator's Corner - the right eye has been moved down slightly.

Anyways, comments and crits are welcome.

very good on the eyes, but i think the shadow on the upperlip is a little bit overdone.

I'm not sure I know which one you are talking about. Do you mean the Grandma portrait?

I have to admit, I haven't really done too much photorealistic portraiture lately, and only most recently returned to it. I'm still a little shakey, I guess =)

I will work on that portrait a bit more though, I think.

Thanx all for the comments =)

Hmm... the devilish look... you mean the smokey look in this portrait?

I think it mostly has to do with the amount of shadow you put on the eyes. In the case of the reference pic i used, she has a lot of eye-shadow on to accentuate the deepness of her brow in relationship to the eyes. Further than that, it's hard to explain. Most of it has to do with the makeup in the original picture, rather than rendering. I just try to render and improve upon what I see.
