If you want to know WHERE ARE ALL THE WOMEN that play computer games, they're all into the online MUD games. I just stumbled over Diskworld mud and there are 100's of players and roughly half of them are female. YES! And these gaming companies reckon they don't know what women want. Poo! Go look at MUD. I can't speak for the other mud games, but Diskworld is fairly bursting with female players.
Oh, and how come no-one's ever mentioned MUD in the forum before? Come on, who's into mud out there? Own up! I had to stumble over it and now its truly changed my life. Talk about addictive. (I'll have to get Jabberwocky to talk me through it )
PS. If I don't bother to say anything else in this thread its because I'm trying to 'spell' my hat (in DW) so I can talk into it.
PSS. No bagging females in this thread. Too much of that lately. Naughty.
No bagging males, either. Strange beasties, but I still luv 'em.

You think so Spitfire? I looked through the members listings and a lot of the players seemed to be women. Perhaps its just diskworld because its based on Terry Pratchet's books.
Anyway, I certainly like DWmud. Brings the interactivity back in. I get bored with a lot of PC games-too predictable.

Duh... MUD is a lot like Ever Crack but better and only like it's not as graphical or something... ... (some guy told me) and on Ever Crack there where tons of women... not as many as there were men, but still quite a few women...
And I'm telling you man stop play cold turkey... just stop... it's not worth it... It will run your life and take it over what little life you might have right now. It's NOT worth it. I knew I got addicted to Ever Crack when I saw trash and wondered how much cps I could trade it in for, or when I wondered what my teachers conned to me and if I could take them, or when I was in art class doing jewelry making I thought my skill lvl should really be going up now... go ahead laugh, but damn it I'm not joking!

heh I got my little taste of the online crack back when I tested Asheron's call, and Diablo II, not as much D-II but as soon as I had to pay asheron I gave it up... not worth the lack of social life |

LOL, everyone. Everything you say is totally true. (And, YES, I know exactly what you mean, Jabberwocky ).
I'm hooked.
I've just been up till 4 am, three nights running. And now I'm sitting here thinking, "hmmm. I'll just zip online for a bit, adjust my xp, find out about getting a broomstick (I'm a newbie witch in DW), snoop through the wizard's library, talk to Granny about spells, blah, blah."
*I must resist. I must resist. I must resist...*

I'm not a big text-based MUD fan, not enough creativity in my mind to imagine all that. I do like GUI MUD's though. I was addicted to "The Realm" www.realmserver.com for a long time, about 2 years, while it was in beta, but I went to college and it almost ruined my schooling, etc.
So I stopped for good and I don't buy any more RPG's like Diablo cause of that addiction lvl that it can produce, I usually stick to fast pased games like FPS's now. |

The Realm was fun, cause we would have guild wars that would be so halarious. I remember one with the one I started called 'Guild of Night' (GoN) vs. 'Guild of Darkness' (GoD) that one was 156 members vs. 85 members, we won cause of our spies...
Kindof hard to explain about spies, but it was halarious, matter of fact we were the first clan (guild) to implement spies in 'The Realm'

I am sick of games.
I play counter strike and that is addictive enough for me.
I have to go to a self help group for that game.

I'm a gal and I used to MUD all the time. Now the only games I play are Quake, Tekken Tag on my PS2 and whatever RPG's I can get my little hands on

Personally I really enjoy it, I love playing Tekken. It's pretty damn nifty.
I have an RPG called Summoner, but personally I think the graphics are crap. Gameplay is alright but I'm not too into it.
I think that when Metal Gear comes out THAT will be a badass game to have
I hear the x box is supposed to be really good.

Soul Calibur rocks!! I can waste anyone LOL
I got so addicted to that on the DC. I don't PS2 is worth it from what I hear is the graphix are no different (like 50 mhz faster on hardware). So no visual difference.
The game selection is ok. The dvd player is pretty much useless, your paying 200 for it when you can go buy a standalone for 119 at the same specs. Plus no modem w/ it...which multiplayer is the future of consoles.
Go grab the DC, 150 bucks (extra controller and game 220). Still half the price, plus modem, and add a dvd and it is still only 330..still cheaper the ps2 and same graphix (my opinion) and better games so far. |

Nintendo was great, but they are going downhill...N64 was a bust for them. It was cool that it came out first, but the game selection just sucked. I think I only liked Goldeneye on it (MK was fun for about 2 weeks)
X-Box is just going to blow them all away. If you are stubburn and just don't like it cause Microsoft is making it then you are going to miss out. They are rich because of one reason, they make great stuff. 600mhz power and a Nvideo chipset is just going to blow the competition out of the water...plus cable/56kmodem support and with a low-down version of Win2k on it, might be able to do more then games...probably a WebTv type thing in it and possible a harddrive to record digitally. All for 300-400 bucks (oh and DVD) this will literally be all in one box. I can't wait actually. |

chris you can't honestly say that the N-64 was a bust, it's the last true haven for fun original games, it really is. go play marioparty or mario tenis, even something like perfect dark and zelda. it may not have been "the Gen X system" but it didn't need to I love multiplayer I love sitting around with friends yelling at everyone that's kicking your ass in waverace. and frankly I can't affoard buying more than 1 game per 4 months or so, so the selection didn't bother me one bit.
personally I think the N-64 was a finominal success especially for what it had going against it.
as for the Gamecube, I can see that being successfull, just like I think the Dreamcast will beat out both Sony and MS in terms of software quality. it's too early to doom nintendo, they've been around for 120 years, I'd say they aren't going anywhere for a while. |

For you who play Quake, Unreal, and CounterStrike...
One of my friends was telling me how they take out this guy they really hate...
They get him next to a wall or ledge and shot him off it... (don't kill him) when you fall off and die from that it's neg points... or shot them until they are almost dead when they are falling and they're going to hit the ground and when they hit they kill themself... Tried this at school... really really pist the other guy off.
I don't play much computer games anymore... I think I might try out Alice from the guys who bring you Quake 3.

I am having so much FUN playing Diskworld mud. Better than all the PC games I've ever played put together. I don't even feel guilty about it, which I usually do. If I do much gaming I start thinking 'oh, every hour I do this I could be drawing or making jewellery or throwing pots on the wheel etc.' But I like the muds, or DW at any rate. Really taps into the imagination. In a way its like reading a book thats alive. |
