Hi all,
I've been running my website for about 8 months now, posting my own artwork and ocassionally trying to scrounge together a comic book, and just trying to have a fun website. But its been impossible for me to get very much traffic to my site. Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful hints?
Thank you,
Jesse Acosta

Hi!

Generally its quite easy to get traffic:

There has to be something on your site that attracts people.

This could be:

* Many good Links (no dead links)

* lots of FAST eye candy

* Original beautiful Artwork (pics, poetry, music.. whatever)

* A good forum that attracts people.. maybe moderated by a pro / semipro artist.

If I would be brutally honest I don't quite see it on your page yet. Don't hate me plz but to really get traffic you have to offer something more.

But maybe its just my opinion..

Generally:
If you post pics in gallery's at various sites you get more traffic.

Just keep working and you'll get traffic for sure if thats what you really want.

Cya

zapman: spamming people on icq and irc isn't very good advice. i definitely don't appreciate it when people do that, and i know i'm not the only one.

Getting traffic on a personnal webpage with your graphics increases when you're good at drawing. If your art sucks (didn't look yet..) then well you're bound to not have people visit often.

Hi there,
If you want to get lots of hits, site design matters a lot. Try to make it look professional or just really good. Keeping it neat and not cluttered. This will give your visitors a good impression of your site and increases the chances that they'll come back. Try to avoid any amatuer looking designs because then many people will just brush it off and ignore it as another 'waste of webspace'.

Other tips include:

* Send your link to all your friends on ICQ.
* Use a signature when posting on message boards
* Post on message boards a lot
* Don't just post at one board, post at a few.
*Link Exchanges always help.
* Sign other people's guestbooks and leave your URL
*Update frequently
* Join Webrings

And the final point that makes the most difference -

Have kickass artwork.

Well, I hope those points helped.

eheheh, I think if you have a few cool interactive things on the site it can bring in quite alot. I think people like little animated thingies or something. www.synj.net has about 9000 hits this month and the top areas go as follows:

1.Main page (duh)
2.Animation section
3.Paintings
4.Flash games
5.Drawing board

I dunno take a look at it. I tried to have a bunch of things people can look at and now i've gotta hold back so it doesn't get too cluttered, although i like chaos.

to sum it all up, interactivity can bring in a nice crowd. Just make sure your interactive pages have a menu back to the stuff you REALLY want them to see. Quite alot load up on the drawingboard/flash games first.

No offense, but your site is pretty ugly.

More people will come back to it if you have a more proffesional look for it. At least that's how it is for me. If i see a nicely designed site, i'm more eager to come back to it to see if something has been updated.
If you don't feel you got enough knowledge to make a nice site yourself, then maybe someone you know or whatever could make you one.

About spamming on ICQ and IRC, i wouldn't recommend that, but a good idea is to have your site URL in your quit message on IRC. Atleast some persons would be interested...

Good luck.

All the things people mentioned above are good, but the most important thing is to register on Yahoo! and all the search engines. 50% of your hits are probably gonna come from Yahoo, the other's come from other search engines. The main thing that people use to find a site are the search engines. If there are 10 digital art sites: 9 kick ass, 1 is crappy. If the crappy one is the only site that registered on Yahoo, then I almost guarantee that it'll have more hits.

Also go to some sites that are designed to help you make your page better: http://webdevelopersjournal.com/
