hello all of you! Its been a long time since I posted! Didja all miss me? Ive been working on my clubs and setting up a storefront to sell some computer games and comics. lol and school! anyhow..... the reason I posted this is....

I have photodeluxe 2.0 it has all these cool effects and stuff.... but when you talk about photoshop, you mean photoshop is just a drawing program? or does it have effects too? I have a demo of photoshop 5.0 i think. Is it just a drawing program?

does this make any sense?
lol

Um. Wow. I don't even know how to approach this..

PhotoDeluxe, if I remember correctly is the barebones version of Photoshop. It has a magnetic selection tool and such. It's pretty much for people who either 1) can't afford Photoshop or 2) even if they could afford it, would just look at it sitting on their desktop.
Photoshop is the definitive for most anything you'd like to do with 2D art, with the exception of a sufficient vector-based program and actually doing something creative with type. You can draw, paint, sneeze, anything you want in it. Just rub the CD and you'll get 1 magical Undo from the Photoshop Genie.

Rhino 3d is a good modeller cept it renderer is pretty crap, but u can just export it to another program. 3d studio max yeah i think thats what its called is meant to be the best. then there's Lightwave yeah thats good too

Hey Dawn,
Considering the wording of your posting... I am gonna assume you do not have much knowledge about 3d apps. So, starting simple, if you just wanna make humans/humanoids... Metacreations' Poser 4 is a good place to start. If you actually want to model humans from scratch... these modelling apps will serve: Hash's Animation Master, Caligari's Truespace or Rhino. Animation Master is cheap, easy to learn, and a complete package with rendering and animation included. Rhino has a rather steep learning curve and is a NURBs modeller... but pretty damn good. If you want to go a step further and get a complete modelling/rendering/animation proggie, look no further than either Newtek's Lightwave or Kinetix 3D Studio Max. If going with LW, stick with ver 5.6 for now.
That is my personal choice.

Not clear what you meant by 3d drawing ? If you meant making 3d models.. look at above. Most 3d rendering packages have tonnes of special effects they can do... and even more plugins to accomplish other effects.

Er... regarding your question about what is a pad .. do a search in this forum for Wacom, then go look at their web site. And never, never ask in here what a Wacom is or which one is good to buy. Folks around here will take your wooden leg and beat you to death with it. ;-)

Programs you simply can't afford not to have :

2d/Bitmap : Photoshop 5.5
2d/Vector : Illustrator 8.0
3d mod/ani : Lightwave 5.x
