This pic is based on a cover of some magazine. I can't remember the name of the person.

I've been practising alot with this method : draw what you see. It seems that i am better in drawing the things i see than anything that i try to imagine. Blunty put, the images from my imagination turn out rather crappy. Im asking what should i do in order to do stuff at least of this quality without reference ?

Give comments or tips, please.

I really wish I knew a good answer to that question... But here's one suggestion I can come up with: try to be analytical when drawing from model. Don't just copy, but constantly think about what you're seeing and why it looks the way it does; those soft and hard shadow edges, that diffuse light there, the underlying 3d shapes and how they interact in 3d space, etc. Gradually you'll gain more understanding of the laws that affect what we see, and then you'll be better prepared to apply those laws to render those great visions in your mind.

Well, at least that's something I'm trying to do myself. I'm sure someone who actually has real understanding of painting theory could give you much better advice

umm.. and maybe if you try to draw something else than humans or humanlikes or those heads.. it could help.. because I have mentioned that most of your drawings are that kind of stuff.. but technique is good btw.. I liked that "puzzle-dude" what was on wall at our school.. (btw. klaivu, if you didn't mention before, saffron (sfr) have been at same school as we are at the moment.. )
