This is my first digital painting (and my first post, hope it works...)

On this pic I used a couple different pictures of Catherine Zeta Jones as reference, though i wasn't aiming for an exact replica of her. I did the face entirely with a mouse, and then I realized I was having a tonne of fun, so purchased a tablet and had even more fun with the hair. Any thoughts and comments are welcome.

Cheers,
jamie

HOLY SHIAT>>> I like, I like... so that's mostly done with a mouse? Damn, I'm jealous... looks great... the hair at the back of the head could be split up into strands a bit (on the reflections, anyways), if that makes sense... but it looks awesome....

pic's looking sweet! one suggestion would be to start getting detail into the hair, there's a couple large flat area's that would look really nice with detail added. Other than that it looks great.
good work

Wow, thats purrty, i'm very impressed. You are really talented.

Question: How long have you been doing art
for? And isn't ice.org a group of professional digital artists? One more, how long did that piece take ya'?

Keep up the fantastic work Jamie!

Cheers!

good work!!.. just add details to hair and eyes.. those eyes are maybe too cartoon-like compared to other things in the pic..and btw. "plica semilunaris" is usually light red or red..(i don't know it's english name but it's that one little thingie in corner of your eye next to nose.. ) and maybe nose could have more highlight in it? not sure but test it.. that's good pic!..keep working on!

Amazing!

iCE is a group of "undergound" artists. They have been around for a LONG time. Their artists are necessarily "professional", but to be in iCE you have to be very talented. They have quite high quality control.. however, I've noticed it slipping as of late. Jamie is a 3D artist by trade (correct me if I'm wrong), everything I've seen from him has been 3D/animation .. and it too has been incredible. I can't believe how great his FIRST attempt at a digital painting looks.

Again, fantastic work!

Qory & failsafe, I was considering having more detail in the hair at the back of her head, but chose not to. I was trying to concentrate the eye primarily on her face so thought that leaving some detail out on the periphery of the image might help that. I'm not sure if it was successful because I've had a couple of people mention that I need more detail on her hair. Dunno.... thoughts?

Eudoxus, how long have I been doing art? Hrm.... my parents tell me pretty much as soon as I could hold a crayon. I've seen a couple of those pictures still in my parents bedroom, but I haven't included them on my webpage. yet. I've been drawing digitally since my dad built a monochrome apple II back in the early 80s. So since I was about seven or so... For a while I digressed from drawn cg to do 3D rendering, though I'm now getting back to my roots.

ice.org is a group of artists. Not all of us are professional. Some are doctors or programmers, etc... who draw in their spare time. A number of us are professional also. Mostly it's just a bunch of people interested in art joining together for fun and to share back and forth art/ideas.

And the piece didn't take terribly long. I did the face first, and that took me several hours. It would have taken less time with a tablet, but I didn't at that time own one. I was constantly adjusting the pressure in the option box. Once I got my tablet it went much quicker. I would have to say about six hours in total. Give or take one or two.

Yes, I am a 3d artist by trade. Presently I'm in Toronto at Spin Entertainment working as an Animator and Lighting TD for the upcoming Imax film Cyberworld (yea, bad title, i know...

It isn't really really my first. I did some digital painting long long ago with Deluxe Paint IIe. Back in the days of the 286 and standard vga... hrm... perhaps I'll put a couple of those on my webpage. They're kinda funny.
