Here is my latest painting. Done in a couple hours in PS5.5 with an Intuos 12x12.
Before this thread turns into another discussion on what is and isnt art... I used photo refernce for this piece. That means ( to me ) that i looked at a photo and did the painting by hand. Also, before anyone searches the net or they're harddrive, it is as close to the original pic as i could make it..so yes i was trying to copy the photographers expression.

nice job. i love the hair. the nose seems a little strange how it fades off into the cheek, and the chest area seems a little weird too but i'm not sure why. otherwise, extremely nice job.

It's very good.
I like the way you framed it too.
though, compared to the original pic the head looks a little elongated so she ends up more like Alanis Morrisette (wearing clothes like that? yeah right)
heh, anyway could be the crappy monitor I'm on at the moment.

The Good News: This is a great image.
The Bad News: If I was the photographer of the original picture, I would most likely consider your image to be a violation of my (copy)rights.

helloooooooooooo cowgirl...

Very good pic. Skin tones are excellent, proportions are good also. I know the photo doesn't have much depth in the color range, but I think if you add in some very *subtle* shadows anyway (pick a light source), the face would look much more "3d".

Nice, but i personally would like to see something painted out of your head. It's great that you can copy flat shapes off a photo, really it is, but I think you could have killer work if you would just make something original (concept, layout, lighting wise). That photographer's rights are being smooshed into the concrete HARD right now.

Dave, I love your paintings - especially the comic-style stuff, but I feel compelled to share the following opinion:

When your site starts up (which is very lovely, btw), you post the following:
quote
Quote:
All imagery and contents in these pages is copyright Dave Daniels 2000. All rights reserved. Besides, it's not nice to steal other peoples hard work cause you're liable to go straight to HELL, and i'll be there waiting for you. >: ]

...Without some sort of notification that photos were used next to each relevant image, isn't the opening warning statement above, essentially, violated?

Your work is fantastic and I very much respect it. On the other hand, I feel strongly that the photographer should get some credit - or at the very least, link to the original photo used to create the respective pieces. This way, both you, your hard and talented work, as well as the photographer, and his/her hard and talented work, would be rewarded. IMHO, anyway.

I would have emailed this to you, but felt it was important for others to read this (and hopefully think about it).

I really like it and its GREAT pratice to draw from a photo and such i guess, but you should always give the creator some credit (especially when you post it on a website).. love the picture!! thou yers seems slightly too shiny/light compared to the photo

Great pic. I think people are a little too sensitive about this credit thing...

Nice work, I wish I was half as good!
