You're going to be a texture artist in a game company, and you have never done any textures before?
ooookayy..
About the textures.. You didnt paint every texture by yourself did you? Looks like you have incorporated other textures. Well i think they look to grainy, maybe that's the point I dunno.. what sorta game is it? |

how does one get hired for textures when they haven't done them before? Or is this for fun on the side (not getting paid)?
the 3rd one is a little too pixelated in full size, and the color noise makes it look a little artifacted. The first texture (or one like it) can be found 5 million places around the net. I'd stay away from trying to make textures that are that overused.
It's cool that you got the job, if I were you I'd do a lot of reasearch first. Get a map editor and pull apart an existing map for counterstrike or something like it, see how they use the textures (and no don't use them for your stuff). But just see where they get away with tiling, or how they're useing the textures etc..
starting out as a texturer is a big step if you've never done it before, I'd say do a lot of research and experimentation
good luck |

Congrats on the job
Though it sounds kind of scary. Especially if you've never done textures before.
Not to take anything away from your own ability, as those textures look pretty nice, but I might not be too confident in the company, especially if they're willing to take chances. =)

well binke, they look grainy cuz i used my digital camera i just bought to get the pics. Dhabih told me a while back to make textures from photos. so im doing it. im sure im supposed to mess with it alot more, but like i said, this is my first time, tahts why im asking for everyone's feedback.
too grainy u say? cool, i'll fix em and then repost later on tonite...
the reason they hired me was based on my digital painting skills and the fact im not being paid :P The company is only 2 weeks old, a gropu of laid off microsoft employee's (mircosoft is based here in seattle and they just laid off a whole bunch of artists/programmers) So the guys decuided they'd raid the Art Institute for free artists...i know that i need a title under my belt before any 'real' companies hire me...so, this is my chance...and yeah d00d, i agree, i dont have too much confidence in thsi comapny either, but if it forces me to abide by art direction, and i get 400 pieces or so outta it, i can plug it into my portfolio

Just a couple of things you should remember about textures.
First of all they should tile correctly.. meaning you have to make sure the edges of your pictures line up correctly. This can be done quite easily using the offset filter, rubber stamp etc. Also your concrete slab thing is lighter at the bottom left corner, you will have to make sure it is evenly lit when it's tiled. let the rendering engine take care of light
And second, if those textures are to be used in a 3d game (ie. to be rendered real time) then you will have to shrink them down significantly.
