There are a few things I'd like to mention... First, the hair. I would recommend dividing it to more sculptural shapes first, and shading according to those. A bit like:
The hair in that is short, of course, but you ge the point. (Excuse the drawing, please... My hands are shaking like it's the end of the world for some reason.)
Next up, the nose could use a bit of sharpening up. It might help if you defined the left (from the viewer, that is) edge of the ridge of the nose a bit better, and maybe had a closer look at how the cheeks blend into the nose. Noses become blurry all too easily. I know I have trouble with them. Again beginning with a simplified, angular structure might help.
Then finally, for that little extra bit of detail, the glasses could refract the light, as they would in reality. That's finetuning, though.
On the other hand, the use of colours is vivid, whihc can only be a good thing. To hell with realism, it's the feeling that counts, right? And as you mentioned before, you haven't done many of these things in Photoshop, so this is a very good start, and with some more practice you'll be kicking ass in no time. Something I've recently discovered to help fight blurriness is to minimize the usage of soft brushes. If you use hard brushes for shading, it's hard to make anything blurry. Then again, I seem to remember you saying you use a mouse, so that might hinder the process a bit. And the restricitons of the mouse are another thing to take into consideration when viewing the image... I know I'm spoiled by my Wacom, so I applaud you for accomplishing this without one.

Eh, I'm an idiot. I forgot to add the file extension to the URL of the image...
edit 2:
Not only that, but I also mistyped the filename... Someone kick me, hm?
edit 3:
Good fucking grief, I even managed to forget it's a GIF, not a JPG... This just isn't my day.

i just think the seperation between the nose and the mouth is a tad too far apart,. theres like an inch between the two,,. with such a large seperation you'd think she had enormous teeth or something..of course if you'd move it up, then she'd have a huge chin,. hmm,. maybe widen the lower partof the mouth?,. but then she'd look a little too manly, eh,..
i have an idea, keep it the way it is,. it's perfect
just a thought,..

Very Nice picture.
But I just have one thing to comment.
The mouth seems wrong to me. It should be
more in perspective. As it is now it looks like it's pasted on (maybe not a good way to describe what I mean).
Well... what I mean is, if you look at the nosewings (don't know if that's the word in english). You don't see the whole of both.
I should be the same with the mouth.
Or maybe it's the shade that is wrong at the left (my POV) side of her lip?
Just try to remove it/retouch it, and see how it looks?
And then, the light source. I'm no pro at light (beleive me), so If you don't want to follow my comments on this, I won't blame you. But to me the light looks like it's coming from the upper left corner somwhere (still my POV, look at the nose shadow) but the right side of her hair is more lit than the left (?). But then again, there might be another light source?
Well, don't missunderstand me now. I really love your picture.
Keep it up. I have to learn how to work better with my wacom.
[exuse me for my english, but I'm REALLY tired now]

hiya, just gotta say, i love the glasses. i like the colours too...
things a see wrong with it are, (my right) right eye is either too far right or you should centr the nose, the lips make her look old, maybe its the lack of shading around them? but i think they are ok.... heheh i like the messy hair the colouring job on the hair is neat but doesnt look realistic but over all i like it.

This is a thumbnail.
real size image can be found at : http://www.saunalahti.fi/~late82/tmp/pulu4.JPG
I would appreciate it, if you told me what's wrong with this, eg. what could be done better ?
Be blunt if you like.

Okay, thanks for the tips !
I think it was the eye that bothered me most, and that the glasses didn't fit to the style.
I'll do a new version someday... and put it on my homepage. I think I should upgrade my homepage ? Perhaps do an english version ?
I dunno.. Hey ! If someone among you would just happen to know something about javascript, would he/she look at my homepage and tell me why the images won't swap in navigator ?

I just don't UNDERSTAND why it won't work !
grrkh.
