Geez, this place is hopping. Go away for a day or two and there are a few hundred posts. Good to see Dhab back posting.
This is a old sketch from the bowels of the hard drive, but it is kind of nice now that I look at it again.
It shows process in one picture, from the more finished door area to the blocked in right side.
Oh, here's that trilobyte thing in original rez, with a top view that I cropped out earlier.
ftp://ftp.jenniferoberg.com/forum/trilobite.JPG
Oh, please leave the other stuff there alone. It is not public! Thanks!
One other thing, I mentioned earlier about budplant.com. I have ordered from them and been very happy. Go there! Aren't there books you have been looking for forever? They got em. That Dean Cornwell stuff and Egon Baby...

Cool to see an 'in progress' pic Spooge D.
You really do have the ability to place those 'loose' strokes in just the right places to let the mind fill in the details a give a very realistic impression (like the statues on the castle). wow.
I was just wondering how much reference material you use for your paintings?
Or do you do a lot just out of your head and 'guess' the lighting etc?
Thanks.

nice, nice, nice...
always fun to see some more "rough" stuff too...a "bit" easier to understand how a brilliand mind works
Btw, yes. . I've ordered the Leyendecker book from budplant..and other books as well. They've got a GREAT selection. Btw, do you have something to recommend that is not totally mainstream ?( I'll check out Dean Cornwell and Egon Baby too). It's always nice to discover new talented artists that I've not heard of before (norway, where I live doesn't keep much else than the most typical stuff, so it's hard to know about'em all)

Is it Egon Baby or Egon Schiele? Egon Schiele I've heard of, but maybe Egon Baby is some other skilled artist we should already know of?

Hmmm... Reminds me of my trip to Italy. Had to draw churches and stuff for a whole week. Great!

This was painted from, gasp, a photograph! As I said, I did it a while ago and it was just an exercise is contolling the pixels. But for commercial work, there are no photos, so that is roughly 1,545,343.2 times harder. Generally, if I am painting something that exists, you can get a lot of photo ref that tells you, "it's gray, with red trim here, and the doors are this tall...,"stuff like that. But the required angle and lighting and feel is never to be found in a photo. Eddy, yes, you use as much info as you can get and apply what general priciples you know, so it is really an educated guess, more than a guess. And of course, I have someone I use to get photos of stuff that doesn't exist, but that's my little secret. Hehe...
I found this pic it under some broken drywall in the bathroom closet, and i thought it had enough merit to see the light of day. And so many people are crying for new stuff, but I can't be posting what I am working on now. So, the bread crumbs.
Ruyter, don't know what church it is... In Florence, I think.
