Okay..I just had to post something on this..even though it's far from Digital art and should be in the other forum...hehe.
FINALLY...the Lord of the Rings is coming to the big screen, and from the cast of actors I have seen it's going to be phenomenal. I at first was Extremely apprehensive about it...because the Trilogy is by far one of the best pieces of fantasy fiction ever written. And c'mon..how many of us..being artists..really are bummed when we see shoddy 3D rendering, or poorly integrated matte paintings, etc.
Hearing that this whole thing was being made in New Zealand, I feared it was going to be of Hercules or Xena calibre...but Fear not!! High production value and Shakespearan actors have prevailed! w00t!! Anyways..I'm done ranting about that..if you want to check out some of the stuff go to
http://www.lordoftherings.net
The webdesign is circa 1963 in my opinion, but the behind the scenes quicktime movie is killer.
And finally..my ultimate reason for this post..who here is a Tolkien fan? And who do you feel best portrays the Middle Earth in their artwork...The Brothers Hildebrandt or Alan Lee..I apologize to those who don't know any of these fellows...but Go and find out! |

You're right, this post does NOT belong here but to RANDOM MUSINGS!!
Nonetheless Lord of the Rings is (are) for sure the best fantasy book(s) I've ever read and since I'm a fantasy addict and Roleplayer I read a lot of stuff..
Maybe you should post this again in random musings..

Peter Jackson (the director) is god. If you've seen what he can do with a low budget (all of his previous films) he's going to KILL with the LOTR trilogy (mega mega budget). No one will be dissapointed. This will be the next Star Wars trilogy (in terms of popularity). Check out that behind the scenes movie, the 3D rendered creatures are far beyond Phantom Menace characters in realism, plus they just look cooler..

Unfortunately great low-budget directors sometimes end up making lousy megabudget movies. Same thing when European filmmakers go Hollywood.. (just look at Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Alien Resurrection" after his "Delicatessen" and "City of Lost Children")
That said, I still trust Jackson on this one. At least he's very versatile (I've only seen his "Heavenly Creatures" and "Braindead", but that's proof enough )
