I added some butter flys and wings on/around the girl, and took out some things, and croped it. I am wornging if this is OK? and how do I give Cridit to BORIS on my image? do i put
"photo reference: Boris YEAR Airbrushed by: My name YEAR."

If all you're doing is adding a few things to someone else's artwork, then I wouldn't call it a "photo reference". I'd give Boris full credit, with a minor reference to the additions made by you. Maybe something like "By Boris (I forget what his last name is... V something...). Modified by Zapman." Or something like that. |

yoszi, technically no. 30% of the image must be changed completely in order for it to be considered your own. if you ask me it should be 80% or higher.

yeah u cant take someones b&w picture.. color it and say it was complete yers.. and in this case.. looks pretty much the same.. u just modified it a bit.. course u gonna have to give credit to the original artist.. and list yerself like artist.. (someone) colored: (by you).. but this i dunno.. i think tinsch says it best.. modified by: ...
use that line.. or "inserts by" :P |

The traditional way is to sign:
your sig
after (original artist)
Whether or not you will be sued depends on how aware and how bored and hungry Boris' lawyers are, and whether you have any money or not. Your client will have a cow and fire you, because they might have deep pockets, even if you don't. They might sue you, as well.
I personally think... you would probably loose this one in court. The wrong side of the grey area, I think. |

There is definitely a copyright issue involved, but nonetheless, you still deserve to get 5 for the following
1st for realizing that there might be a copyright issue involved.
2nd for presenting your question to your fellow artists.
3rd for showing your image next to the source image.
4th for replying to the comments without resorting to flame-attacks.
5th for finding a good solution. (As you written do MY OWN drawing)
There you go
out of
I do wish that more people would follow your example!
