I've been reading this group for about a week now. I have to say that I've been inspired by all the cool art I've see here.
I actually found this forum after Goodbrush (Craig Mullins) mentioned it on his webpage. If I ever get half as good as he is, I'll be a very happy guy.
So without further ado, here are my first couple of paintings.
The first was done in Photopaint and is me learning how to apply Craig's gouache-like approach to painting digitally. It's my Wacom pen holder because it was handy to use as reference. It took a couple of hours.
Next up is an in-progress look at a portrait of Sarah Michelle Gellar from BTVS. It's still really rough and is just past the totally flat color stage. I'm using a magazine cover as photo reference. This image is after about 3 hours of painting in Satori FilmFX. It's been scaled down a bit to help with loading time. The original 1280x1024 image is on my website if you really want to see it. http://www.geocities.com/movietd/paint/smgpaint1.jpg
Comments and tips on technique are appreciated. I'm really wrestling with picking colors and getting the face to be a good likeness. I'm thinking of forgetting about the likeness and just work on improving my painting technique first.
Thanks, everybody.
Mike

Hi movietd!
I like you first image very much, your style here is really cool.
The second picture is in my opinion yet to rough and incomplete to say something about it. You should post it again maybe on a later stage.
Do you have traditional art or some other Photoshop artwork online? I would be very curious to see it.

Thanks for the feedback.
I don't really have any other art to post yet, and I haven't painted anything before this. I do have a bunch of pencil sketches I could scan in and post when I can find some extra time.

I like your style, Mike You have a kind of pastel on black paper look going...Makes for some nice striking images -- I'm still working on getting images w/black b/g's on them to look right...HEH =P~ So props to you for being able to actually make a good looking pic like that

Thanks for the encouragement.
While it could still use some work, I've taken my painting about as far as I want to go for now. The hair definitely could use some work. Here it is:
I also posted a few of my earlier sketches and photoshop (actually GIMP) work. You can see them here: http://www.geocities.com/movietd/paint.html
The 1280x1024 version of my painting is there too.
