I can't believe this thread is still going on. I do find it amusing though.

I think "Master Artist" Synj, should back up his strident and ultimate "truth" in what is art and what is not by trying to recreate what Fallen created better, and show us how "easy" it is, rather than continue to flap his gap. I assume you can do better, because you talk like you can do better than anyone here. And if you're not up to it, shut your ass up and stop wastin my damn bandwith with your retarded SPAM.


Kurisu: I'm totally with you in terms of shutting this issue up, but don't you find it a little irking that everytime Synj makes a comment he has to throw in some lameass insult to EVERYONE?

Just quickly before this thread gets trashed and forgotten about, I'd like to add something:

The purpose of this forum is to allow digital artists alike to converse, relate, and compare different artworks. To discuss a common obsession and work to better ourselves and others. Each person develops their skills in a slightly different manner, yet the simple fact is, nobody is born perfect. All artistic skills require refininement and practice to improve. Mastering concepts such as lighting, form, defintion, colour, and every other aspect of art, involves practicing and learning from mistakes. The fact is that Fallen does not claim that the picture is original. He admits that it was photo referenced, and this has helped him to make it a great piece. Practice such as this will allow Fallen to one day create his own original portrait, as he will begin to master said techniques.

The point is, this is supposed to be a community for people to associate with and help each other. You either like someone's art, or you don't - however if you have nothing constructive to say about one's art in order to help them improve, say nothing at all - nobody wants to hear childish criticisms.

In other words - synj, grow up and join in the community. If you wont, f*** off, you're not welcome.

I think it's a shame that synj's very funny and talented work isn't accompanied by the mature mind that spawned it.

I dont see any wrong in using photo reference, since it's a perfect way to learn how highlighting, shading and other mysterious things are built. And learning is what life's all about.

I also dont think it is up to anyone to decide what "art" is, since the definition of art can be sought both in the atmospheric and the technical realm. IMHO a shopping-cart script written from scratch by a 13-year old kid after school is just as much art as the works of michelangelo, or Fallen, or whoever.

We should keep the #1 rule of messageboards intact, which is DONT COMMENT WHEN YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO ADD.

I mean, seriously, your lightwave cartoons cracked me up and display a high level of talent, but i really dont give a flying fuck about posts comparing nipple sizes...

Some tell me I'm childish...then scrounge up an insult of their own. Some tell me what I define as wrong, is wrong. Then they do it themselves. Hooray for hypocrits!

My constructive criticism: CHILL OUT, misters. This is way too easy to piss you off. About 10 people have already said the same thing to me yet another feels like adding it in again for some reason. I've got the rest of my life to worry about my maturity level. You guys don't have to do it for me but thanks for your concern.
