Synj obviously needs to be banned. The fool has nothing to contribute but idiocy, and not the good kind of idiocy either.

Fallen, your pic was great. Really nice work.

"Come back when you learn what art is."

You're telling us to "come back"? You are the newbie here, why don't you just get the hell out and "come back" when you learn how to function in a community and how to respect the views of others.

And you consider those primary 2-dimensional doodles you create art, synj?

You hold yourself at much too high esteem considering your skill level. Before you insult people by suggesting that they rip off their artwork, maybe you should work on sharpening your own skills... because obviously, they are quite lacking.

And no, we weren't offended by "the truth". We're just sick of hearing you rattle off childish insults, belittling everyone and forcing us to conform to your standards of what art is. We don't need you to tell us what art is and isn't.

ps. (with a cherry on top)
Tinusch, you wouldn't feel so forced into my views if you weren't a drone like the majority of these people.

And you sir, whoever you were, must differentiate 2D from work done within Lightwave 3D if you plan to get a job in the art field.

Hey, stop thrashing this thread and just ignore the geek. He's probably pretty used to being ignored all his life anyway. This thread is gettin pretty ugly, so I'm gonna scratch some of my nasty words.

Someone pulled my finger and I splattered poop on a piece of contruction paper. I consider it art because it looked alot like the cast of "90210".

I believe self-expression to be Art. Others may or may not appreciate one's self-expression, to be sure. Pictures and views expressed here fall into that category for me.

I believe:

  • This is a community. Its members should treat each other with respect and not condemn one another's opinions.
  • I think one should take special care when potentially accusing another. How something is worded and phrased and the timing of its introduction is key. We are amidst a heated period within this forum, and one should take care, especially now, when sharing something that might set off others.
  • People are selfish. We do what we do to make ourselves feel better. Me typing this post makes me feel more 'righteous.' BUT, I am also considering how it might affect others - in this Sijun community - which I care very much about. I am hoping to sift through the negative emotion and focus on what's most important: Furthering art amongst members of this forum. I think the problem with selfishness comes when one does not consider how their actions may hurt others - or knows and chooses to anyway.
  • I like Fallen's picture. He copied another picture - but I believe strongly that he 'looked' at it, and hand-painted his own version (regardless of posted steps). I think the term 'photo reference' can sometimes be misleading (see comments in this Thread).
  • I like synj's artwork. It is funny. I like funny.
  • I like everyone's pictures here, actually. It is all valid art and is self-expression. Regardless of how new or experienced someone is, I love to see how people progress as artist's. That's a big reason for the Gallery 2000 - to bring everybody together.
  • I think it's better to react to something that upsets one, not in kind, but in a way that will get a point across and diffuse the situation (at least somewhat) at the same time.

I hope we can focus more on sharing our artwork and enjoying what each of us has to offer one another - in positive and constructive ways.

Fallen, if you didn't copy the exact shape of the face but made one yourself, and used the photo as reference for lightning/skin tones/hair etc i would say that your pic is very good. Since you copied it, it's not even mediocre.
If that angers anyone, go to hell , that the way i see it.

This is my first bit of artwork that I have done over the long years battling a severe block of creativity. Somehow, when reading this post I was then inspired to create this self-expression masterpiece of incredible proportions. I feel that beauty in art is in the eye of the beholder.
No man is an island, and by that no man can create a diffinitive boundary between what is truely an art in of its own paragon. I can assure you that this one piece is my chef d'ouvre of artwork. Behold this once in a lifetime revelational specimen.

Now THAT IS ART! Makes me want to pull down my pants and get raped by a truckload of furbies. In all serious now, I truly believe that art is a form or fasion of ones visions and that the resinance of the development is shown in places you wont expect. Take my undies for example. I had a skid-mark about 6 inches long..most people would cringe at such human development. I on the otherhand put those dirty undies on my head and licked the skid-mark with almost a poetic fasion. I should eat mexican more often

I'm not getting whats wrong with using photo reference. For beginners, there's no better way to learn, and for seasoned artists, everyone uses some sort of reference for their artwork or at least they should i think. IMHO.
I'm gonna go on a limb and guess that Danny and BoomStick used photo reference for their last posts as well? Am i wrong? Reference is you friend How many of you can truly say that when drawing a hand, you've never held up your own to see the shape.

Just my opinion that's all. I use reference to get an idea of how a given object looks like, i dont copy it but study the shape and then try to come up with my own. If i end up with shit, that's ok, next time i'll get right. This i think is painting from a reference, painting exactly the same thing you see is copying.

i agree fully with yoszi on his last comment.

in addition my fellow pricklets,
i believe since photos are flat/lacking true depth and much easier to draw than from a real life object or straight out out of your head, should not be considered "art". That is the brutal raping of the photographer's art as well. As they all scream help I'm wiggling on the ground, people just go hey lets pretend I did this without any reference to the photographer.
Any "professional" who has to constantly refer to photos in order to complete his paintings/drawings/etc should seriously consider his own ability and knowledge of his own environment, as well as his title.

Synj,

I don't know where the hell you come from to pull out such insults to people you don't even know.

There are a lot of artists here that could very well beat you hands down artwise and talent wise, so I wouldn't just blast in here insulting people needlessly.

I'm not looking to participate in a flame war, but I find your posts quite pretentious and abnoxious.

Everyone is entitled to their views and oppinions, and that's the way it is. If you don't share people's oppinions, it's your right to say so, but leave the insults behind. Have some respect please.

Just a "pricklet".

i often wonder, when online, if these 'smartass tough guys' [synj] would be as 'tough' in real life or if they would just cower and piss themselves. It amazes me the amount of 'invincibilty' people [synj] tend to think they have online. Not that this thought matters as it will probably be met with some grade 5 'tough guy' remark. [synj]

Come on, guys.

Though some of this is humorous, it seems dangerously close to exploding into more personal insults.

What say y'all to just making more pictures (and commenting on those within this thread, for example) instead of peeing in each other's sandboxes?
