With Micke and Joachim posting all those flattering self-portraits I thought I'd post something as well.. Ahem..

As the subject already indicated, it's actually my first full PhotoShop+Wacom tablet image. Done back in 1997 when I got my first tablet. Too keep things simple (I didn't feel comfortable with PS's colour ability at the time) I figured I'd draw a Black&White image. Nice and easy.. It got stuck on my HD all that time.. Figured it could use some daylight.. Pic is named after the model..

Is it cold in here or is it me?

Danny

Hehe holy shit that's awesome! A first image? Could've fooled me...hehe Do you do traditional art as well...? I'd love to see some scans, if so -- I love your style!

Damn man! You're giving me stress over here!
How long did it take you?
How do you start with a pic like this and how do you work your way through it? It would be exiting to see. Please post some step by step pieces
please?

Danny, =), as always.
So, Wacom can be this precise.
Ah well, with my 14" monitor I doubt it would work good.
Take care

Awesome work, as usual. Now if all you people would just join #digital-art on IRCnet (and abandon that stupid EFnet network), you could ask Daniel-San in person

I posted this recently in another thread but it seems appropriate here.

My first wacom image;

I took the exactly opposite path of Danny - this is probably the most colorful image I've ever done! (and it's not a copy too

Thanks for the compliments guys...

Micke, this one didn't take too long. A couple of hours at most. I'll post some steps to my ftp dir at:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~dang

DerPunkt, nice to see you're still around.. Get that tablet man!! Mouse is for pixelling, tablet is for painting!

Ex, sorry dude.. this is the 100% version. No bigger res. for this one. 1:1.. Fresh out of my pixel years I wasn't into the real high res stuff yet. So as you see.. one doesn't need to drawn an image 4-8 times bigger to get sharp detailed results..

Loki, yeah.. I had a photograph for reference. A real model wouldn't have been all too practical as I was drawing this in the office at work.. Photo's already attract crowds..

Yeah, to get a tablet.
With my financial status I can only get that shitty 12x10cm or something.
I want that A4 one.
Here it costs around 1000 DEM.
And I doubt it could work well with 800x600

dP, why do you want an A4 one? You only get your arm tired with one of those I've had a simple A6 size ArtPad II for years now, and it still does the job just fine... Accuracy is no problem at all for painting.

DerPunkt, man.. A5 is big enough. In fact, my next tablet is almost certainly gonna be the Intuos A5.. I never use the A4 (30x30cm actually) to it's full extent.. You should imagine yourself moving your mouse over such a large area.. It doesn't work comfortably...

Danny..

very very nice Danny!!

DerPhunkt - Get the A4 sized. I have no problem with aching arms or whatsoever. The big size is ideal for skething. Also, you can always choose to shink down the actual drawing area through the control panel... Well, just wanted to say that I looooove my A4 Wacom..

Looks very cool Danny. Checked out your inprogress work too. You work differently to what I would of expected. Do you find it easier to work on and complete sections at a time, rather than gradually working on the whole thing? Any chance of seeing the original photo btw?

Dunno, guys, I worked with A6 on Mac (20" monitor) and if thats the feeling you have drawing with a tablet then I don't need it.
1st - the one I used is TOTALLY UNprecise (when trying to do a nice curve, you get lines instead, but I guess thats hardware question)
2nd - the size ratio between tablet and monitor is horrible (move 1mm and get a line 20 pixels long)
3rd - it doesn't feel anything like holding a pencil
4th - thats why I still stick to good ol'e mouse, until I try that A4. If that one will suck, then I'll get Intuos.
there =)))
oh, btw, check back soon, I think I'll have a pic posted soon (good old Scene topic - women)=)))
Take care,
dP

Snake Grunger, no posters.. unless you raid the Eidos and Core offices...

Cos, my method of working evolved from the old pixeling technique. I do prefer to work on seperate elements of the image to (or near) completion before I move on to another area.
