thanks ya guys!
too bad I don't have more time right now to really tweak it out. I agree with the arm-thing, but this is my first fully featured human character in years ... so I'm already quite happy how it turned out - needs a lot of improvement though.

hot damn Loki! Thats real nice... I especialy love all the ripped wires on the mech's knees, and like other people mentioned, the casualness of it. You are definitely the biggest source of inspiration for me can't wait to see till its finished!

Hey Loki,
Great pic man!!, I love the mech wreck in the
background, really excellent.
The guy could use a bit more work tho, the pose looks a bit akward, but I'm sure all that will be straightened out in the end. Can't wait to see the finnished pic. Great stuff.

Loki, looks like that's gonna be another awesome piece! The background is excellent man, love all the little details with the wires and everything. With the guy I think the shoulder kinda looks too low, and the arm is a bit too big/fat. Can't wait to see in when its fin. great work! |

pheeww.. That's great stuff again Loki!
I LOVE the metal on the Mech.. especially the scratches at the top right.. Very nice framing as well. Good going!
If you need some assistance with the human character, I wouldn't mind helping you out. And no, I wouldn't draw in a nude ch1x0r.... unless you'd ask ofcos Baah.. what am I saying.. I'm confident you'll do fine without my humble interference..

Loki, That is one NICE picture! I'm a really big fan of yours!
I saw it too earlier today on Joachims
Computer. I really like the lighting and i think that the smoke and the robotic things
are awesome.
I think some of the places are a bit too
sharp for example the grass in some of the
areas also some of the detailing maybe could
have been a bit more blurred. I know that it's not quite finnished, this is only suggestions
God i feel like a jerk writing this......
Can't wait to see the finnished pic

All critiques are _very_ welcome. There's so much wrong with that image, so that I appreciate all the input you guys can give me - and micke - your input was especially ...
Sometimes I get 'blind' on images, when I've worked on them for a while. Can't really tell what's good or bad or how to 'debug' it. Usually, after waiting a couple of days, my eyes seem to forget and I can get a 'fresh' look on the image, taking out the mistakes. Sometimes it takes a several weeklong break to rest.
All your input helps me a lot guys - thanks - I hope I can return the favor and actually succeed in improving the image.

I know that feeling of getting blind, Loki.
It happens to me all the time....
Good luck with finnishing the pic.
I'm sure it wil turn out great as always!

Wow as if any more praise could be said Wow
Your definately an inspiration builder when you strive for such perfection as this...makes me want to strive as hard as I can too.
I love the way that the different levels of detail make your eyes travel the painting first the damaged leg then further down to the soldier then to the terrain and finally the background. The eye can travel both ways too and then the plume of smoke starts the journey all over again.
Once again fantastic imagery you've created. |

Hmm, yeah, image bugs. =) I get plenty of them all the time. And when I come back to it after a few days, it gets me down cause I notice too many problems, then I don't fix it, give up, and blam... never finish anyting. =) |

Whoa! That's cool! I really like the sense of perspective you've captured with the horizon and plains. It really does give it this laid back and casual look.
I'm inspired all over again, thanks for that Loki!

The cover is for an article about "Game Philosophy" (whenever it gets posted..) and I really think he captured the essence of what could have been a difficult topic to draw.

Damn that's cool. Even though less detailed then we're used seeing from you, it still is an awesome(!) image. The oil spill on the mech's leg is really cool, and the distant city (which probably got blown to crap minutes ago) adds a lot of depth. In short, a really good image. I wonder what the original resolution was... |

This is not a 100% finished. It will be the cover on the nerw looneygames issue - but since it was supposed to be released two weeks ago, Sum gave me permission to post it. It's huge, so be careful when loading. It was definetely inspired by my current project, but has got nothing to do with it productionwise.
Lighting is kinda weird and there's not enough athmospheric haze in it yet - but whatda hell ...

Thx,

Loki, thats really great!
The lighting looks perfect and the detail is great.
The only thing I dislike about it is the lack of detail in the army dude...
Looks good though

Hehe, I saw it earlier today.
It is indeed a very nice image ! I like it a lot. I find it very cool that you've made this robo future like it was a very casual thing (relaxing by the foot with a cigarette ).
Great work !

I agree with Joachim, I love the way you made it seem like an everyday occurence.
Man, there are so many talented artists here.. I'm in heaven!
I better draw something. (although it won't hold a candle to Loki's stuff). |

That's the best thing that happened to me today! Thank you for your positive feedback, guys! Getting positive feedback in this forum means a lot to me - I don't mean that people usually don't like to give positive feedback - in the contrary - no, I think it's so cool to be able to show one's stuff to people who appreciate the same as one self.
I mean, that's probably a familiar situation for you guys too: when you work on a new image and you're quite jazzed about it, there are usually not the 'perfect' people around to show them to. There's Mom, Dad, the brother (hi ex! ), friends, etc., but rarely people that are as 'into' your passion as you are.
This forum is full of people with the same passion and that's why getting such great feedback is even more precious to little Loki.
[it's in the middle of the night and I'm waiting for a render to finish, so I'll just ramble on]
Sumaleth: thanks for mentioning the topic of the illustration "Game Philosophy" - I was thinking what I could paint for a topic like that - first I wanted to do a 'quaked' version of Rodin's thinker, made a quick sketch and it didn't work - then I remembered that Mech idea I had. A Mechwarrior, dropped out of the battle, taking a break, thinking if all the fighting makes sense. In a way that can be transleted into thinking about if all those 3D-shooters, that we all like, are really the ideal game. War. Killing your friends in 3D dungeons, etc. [insert usual rambling about violence in games]
well ... that's that.
Thanks again,
Loki signing off |
