Doesent everyone hate it when people that you show art to ( that you put a LOT of time and effort into ) just say something stupid like... what the hell is that supposed to be?
Is it just artist's that appreaciate other artist's paintings??
It makes me so mad when people do that.
And they pick the picture down to the very fibers that hold the painting or sketch together.
Same with digital art except down to the numbers that hold it together.. it just pisses me off man!!

i think what ex is trying to say is they dont appreciate what was put into the certian piece of artwork simply because they dont understand it. Another case is one time i made something in photoshop and it took forever and for anyone who knows photoshop they said it looked pretty good but my teacher on the other hand didnt realise the time and effort that goes into working on something in PS. However i made a title for a project today and i told my teacher i made it in photoshop thinking nothing of it and he was like woah that's cool i'll give you extra credit That was pretty neat |

That doesn't really make any sense Beast.
Just because someone can find something wrong with a painting, doesn't mean it's "true". Just because someone has an opinion doesn't make their opinion "true".
I could say that raping sheep is a normal way of life, and that would be my opinion.. certainly doesn't make it true, does it? :P

Beast,
I am a forgiving person
But it just pisses me off so bad when i show my brother something that took me 5 hours or hard work.. and all he says is what the hell is that??
And he picks it apart like there is no tomorrow.
I think almost everone knows what i am talking about.
And my classmates , i showed them the drawing too, and i dont think they were kidding when they said it but they were like... that looks like shit! And they just kept saying negative things like.. who is that supposed to be? why is his gun slanted to the right and crooked? Just little things like that that make me really mad and stuff. Ok i think i got off track again... sorry =-[
But my point is.. not very many people appreaciate true art.
BTW - coconutmonkey do you have ICQ?

True art is for me just to put a lot of effort in it. Making a huge statue of coke cans (welding and stuff) IS art (though it looks... like a huge pile of welded coke cans). Same is with digital art. It doesn't have to look fancy to make it art.
It's your mind that makes you the artist.

I think you need to appeal to people with an understanding of art beyond just asthetics. Plus I think all brothers are assholes (pardon the word if it offends).

I agree totally ex I may not be a good digi artist but when I do make something and i show my friends they don't understand it like if I show them an unfinished GS skin there like "wtf is that crap" yet if i coloured it theyd understand ehhe.
I think unless you know what time and effort goes into working with digi art you don't fully apprieciate the images ppl produce.

fruzetti, I think u nailed it with your reference as to what all brothers are. Also, someone asked if only other artists appreciate art, and I'm nothing as an artist, and yet I appreciate ALL the art that passes through here (as far as I can recall)... I guess the problem is that a lot of people can only see art as being something that is created and looks realistic... but look at webpages, for example. Almost every single one is far from anything you'll see in real life, and yet there is a lot of really beautiful art in them. I guess the same goes for all digital art. It's not necessarily the realism, but the actual composition. It doesn't have to look like a tree or whatever, as long as it draws your attention to something, or conveys a message of some sort, or just shows a state of mind of some sort. Well, that's my opinion, anyways... art has a message, and although I don't comprehend it all that much, I appreciate it and think that you guys are awesome artists!!!

Yeah I agree with micke. This thread is pointless. If you make a peice of work. how can you expect everyone to understand what went into it. You have to explain it to them if they don't see it. If you make "interpretive work" you have to expect people to interpret it in their own way. just cause a person doesn't like your peice of work doesn't mean they have no appreciation for art. What is really bad is if you post something or show something that you made and people comment on it like "nice. keep it up" If a person is looking for something to work from, something to learn from. its impossible to get anything out of "nice. keep it up" people should be saying what they like about it or whatever. Anyways.. Yeah funny drawings on this thread

"Don't you hate it when..."
People post some of the most insignificant, ignorant, and completely off-topic threads into a forum that is not about rambling, but about art. I mean, this doesn't belong here at all. Sure, it mentions art, but the entire idea behind the post is based on ignorance.
In response to this completely pointless thread, everyone has an opinion. Live with it. And if you don't like their opinion, just think "screw 'em" in your mind, and let it go. Nothing to get worked up about...
Just do what you like, what you think is right. That's all that matters, to me at least, when I create art.
