I am considering purchasing a Wacom tablet. I don't want to shell out the money for the 12x12 model. I was going to get the smaller 6x8. Does anyone have any input on the different sizes?

I have a 6x8 too =)

It is good for the work i do, mainly sketches and some web design. But if you do the kind of things dhabi does , or anyone who is a professional graphic designer you may want to opt for a 12x12

I'm using a 12x12 and turst me.. you don't want one that big. It would be great if you had a 21" Monitor and ample amount of desk space, but it its hard to be comfortable with it. But maybe thats just me. If i could do it all over again i'd go for the 6x8.

I think the Wacom Intuos A5 is a good one...It may be a little expensive, but it can also a good investment.

I use a 6x8 both at home and at work...the 12x12 is way to big and annoying to try to fit on the desk so i never tried it. Who knows, maybe a bigger one would be better for me, but i haven't gotten around to getting a bigger one. 9x12 sounds nice though, maybe i'll try that.

Well, I draw... big.

And I have a large enough desk to work with it easily.

I've used the little 5x6 one for years, then just bought the 6x8 one it is bulky in comparison, but it does help with detail. I tested the 12x18 it's too freaking huge for my desk, not to mention it would eat up one of my paychecks if i were to keep it.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I believe I will purchase the 6x8.
While browsing the Wacom website yesterday I noticed something I hadn't seen before. The PL series of tablets. These look cool! Has anyone used one before? I likely won't as the price tag is around $2000 for the small version. Since I don't make my living from art it would be hard to justify that sort of expense.

The cheapest I have been able to find them is at www.mwave.com
The 6x8 sells for $283.15 or $288.55 if you want USB. Compare that to Wacom direct, they want about $330.

$300?????? holy crap!!! I just got my digital art tablet a couple days ago and I payed 100 bucks for my 6x8!!!. What kind was the one you looked at? I prefer paper much more but my scanner is working too well... doesn't like picking up my detail. the surface is too smooth... I need a good roung sruface for some reason to draw well. something like paper ... Oh well... I'm trying to get into the digital art stuff but I don't have Adobe photoshope or PsP or anything . But I do have this one program that seems to work o.k.... it came with the tablet... called Painter Classic... it has dodge and burn tho.... I checked. Anyone have this program? how much does Adobe cost? maybe I can convince my not-too-bright mom to get me ANOTHER early christmas present... muhahaha... That or just actually wait for Dec 25... but that's a whole 2 months away!! <whines>

I was excited to find the Wacom Intous for under $300. If you know of someplace to get it for $100, by all means, let me in on the secret. Or, am I just way off base here. Was I about to make a mistake, purchasing this tablet for so much?

Hmm.. 6x8 might be more comfortable indeed, but the reason I use a 9x12 is because it's the closest thing to an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, which I draw on most.. so it made the transition a lot easier. I dunno if this makes any sense, but it did when I was buying it

I've got a 4x5 (5x4, whatever). I couldn't afford anything bigger at the time. (the little ones are definately better than nothing, or something bigger that's not a Wacom. And it's perfect for a twitch handed former mouser hack like me)
it's only a Wacom Artpad/Artz II thingy too.
how much better are the Intuos line?

I have a Wacom 54 at work, and a 68 at hom. I love them both. And, I don't see much difference between the two. The 54 is a "little" small, but like someone said, it's better than a bigger tab that's NOT a Wacom. It works beautifully. The 68 is ideal, for me. I can't see needing a bigger one.

Has anyone ever used/heard about the 4x5 Graphire tablet?
I can only assume that as it's so much cheaper than the proper tablets that it's a bit crappy? I'm thinking of getting one 'cause I'm on a very tight budget so any feedback would be appreciated. . .

i gotta graphire.. and it kicks ass..

ive never tried no other tablets before.. but instead of pondering if and ifnot i should buy the graphire or save up for an intous.. i said.. well fuckit i aint gonna get any richer and i wanna tablet now.. so i just bought it and im happy wit it.

USB, light as a feather.. can hold it firmly like a palette to doodle .. and if that doesnt convince you.. now they come in CUTE TRANSLUCENT IMAC'ish COLORS!!!! get em while they last folks.. :P

seriously tho.. just cause it deosnt cost 300 bucks and is only 4x6 doesnt mean its wack.. its still a wacom.. and like the intous, its still a great product.. so stop whining.. "i wanna tablet" "i wanna tablet".. theres one right there for u.. the graphire.. get it, shut up, and draw :P .. you'l be happy wit it

nuff said.

oyeah as for Thanatos.. if 300 bucks gives u the shocks.. tell yer mom u need 600 bucks for some drawing program called photoshop

Since this post is already up...

If i get a 4x5 is it really small and hard to draw on? If you have had one of these before please give me your input on it. Is it worth the money? Or just get a bigger one?

Basically my question is:
Is the 4x5 very inconvienent because of its smaller size?

Well, I started this post sometime ago to get some feedback about wacom tablets. I had intended to purchase an Intous 6x8 with my IT return. The funds ended up being applied elswhere. Based on the replies I have read I decide to purchase a graphire. I know it's smaller, and less sensitive but the $70 dollar price tag was hard to beat. If I like it and use it, I may consider upgrading to an Intous later. Thank you all for your replies.
