Before i go lemme put this egg in and let it cook while i'm out:
Would adding a 3rd forum specializing in 3d modeling and animation be something you misses and misters would be interested in?
I noticed a number of posts having to do with 3d art. And i have started 3d modeling too and am interested in it personally.
Good things about this:
Keeps 2d and 3d art seperated, so you can read about what you are interested in.
Bad things about this:
Personally i prefer to load one page and go through that and not have to look in a bunch of different forums to read everything (3 ain't a bunch, but you know what i mean)
Add you comments below and when i get back i'll see what the general consensus is....and totally disregard it and go with my own opinion. (no not really. )
please add comments starting..........NOW! |

Uhh... wait! Time out! I'm not ready! Hold on a sec! Do over!

Can I try one more time?

I like the current division concept (which isn't always followed, but oh well...) between 'Digital Art' and 'Other (Random).' It's simple and easy to understand.
If it's possible to add the capability to sort threads (I didn't notice it - so pardon if it exists), then what about this...
Add another attribute to each thread that the user chooses between an assortment of 'types' to identify what the thread is about (2D, 3D, matte painting, tablets :P etc...) when posting it.
This would solve (to me, anyway) the dilemma you've presented, as well as help people to find what they're looking for faster and easier...

I think its a good idea. Since there are only 2 forum topics at the moment, 3 wouldn't be bogging us down any, and like you said, will allow for us to read/post what we are more interested in.
I am interested in both 2d and 3d, so i'll be checking both topics if implemented.

i think its good to have the category separation. just don't go adding a bazillion forums, then we'd all be lost. |

I think art is art 2d or 3d and would prefer just one forum.

some dumb fucks doesnt really understand what art is...so therefore digital art forum is more of a place for 2d-digital drawing artists. so you should change the pic up there ^^ to sumthing like digital drawing forum. |

I think it could be nice to replace random musings with a 3d and animation forum. I find more than enough bull and random musing in this forum allready.

I think that a seperate 3d forum would be a great thing...
I like to keep 2d/3d seperate.
I am involved in both worlds, but I usually go elsewhere when discussing 3d. - www.highend3d.com
And I really like to keep those two artforms seperated... cause of an easy overview.
No cluttered forum = faster information.
Just my thoughts....

Ack! no. fallen took the words right out of my mouth. art is art. a lot of the time people have 3d and 2d elements in their pictures anyway, so it all kind of relates. not to mention of coarse that it IS anoyying checking two different forums :\ the setup right now is beautiful. |

If there should be seperation, I'd much rather see web-designers getting their own forum. I personally find seeing webdesign related posts in this forum annoying and offtopic. Now please spare me the flame crap about how the name of the forum is Digital Art and that webdesign falls into this category, yadayadayadah.... The word Art is about as open and multi-interpretive as the word GOD. It goes beyond any definition. In other words, it doesn't mean a damn thing (to me personally atleast). This forum is based on Dhabih's DRAWING abilities. I'm interested in seeing that kind of stuff from him and other painters alike. If adding additional forums will result in better categorization, I'm all for it!
Danny
ps. please don't turn this into another definition of Art thread.. it's a waste of time.. I'm just giving my view on Dhabih's proposition

If it's to clear up the board and have it more pertinent, I'm all for it.
My suggestion : "Digital Paint Forum": As the name implies, would contain painting/pixeling. Anything that is NOT related to it such as 3D Rendering (its own category), Web Design, HTML and Java programming, Mom's monthly PMS syndrome, Shockwave/Flash, Flame threads, taking out the trash, and ALL THAT CRAP about the dreamcast/PS2/Dolphin, and making up stupid senseless space wasting stories like "tkakaka, yeah, H4x0R 3l173 -- Whoot!", etc, should be elsewhere in my very, very humble oppinion.
A 3D Forum would be nice, because it is a totally different method, as specialized and large as painting.
my 2 cents.
frost.

I agree with Kurisu's idea of having an additional attribute to sort the threads (if that's possible) into various catagories. Then it could remain the Digital Art forum and remain a home for all types of artists, yet still satisfy those folks who want to skip over subjects they're not interested. IMHO, we all learn more about our particular submedium by occasionally investigating others.

Amen!... All of you in favor of a second forum... I hear you!
This forum is beginning to drown in off-topics... It's not as interesting as it used to be.
A lot of the stuff posted in "Digital Art Forum", really belongs in "Random Musings"

Keep it in the family!....Oh what are we talking about?......Hmmmm, two forums would be nice.
PROS: Gets rid of allot of clutter, hence faster searching times. And yeah....the other things I was going to say.
CONS: Separates people(honestly, how often do you guys go into the other forum?), Ummm...puts extra stress on your index finger from having to click so many times.
My opinion. Have one forum and implement a categorize option, so when you post you can put it in a specific category e.g. 2D, 3D, ect.. I think someone else said something along that line.

persoanlly i think we should have an FAQ section of the forum,. uneditable, excewpt by the Dhab, so the most common questions would be posted there, so we can redirect newby questions,...
other than that i like the setup,. yea we have wild and crazy posts here that should be in random musing, but some of them add spunk,.. e.g. "fast pig" |

I think a 3d forum would be a great idea. (plus maybe it's a way for us to get Dhabih to post some of his 3d stuff ) I'm personally interested in it too cause It's what I do for a living, and a place like this helps motivate you to do personal projects. |

Sounds like a good idea; it could be a step towards categorizing the huge digital art forum

Seperate forums would be great. 3D stuff doesn't really get as much feedback in here as something that is 2D. I think it would help people get better feedback and that's what were all looking for right?
