A couple of days ago I did a sketch at work and decided to color it. I mailed the result to Joachim and asked him what he thought. He gave me some advice and asked whether he could demonstate his advice by painting over my pic. I allowed him to (duh), and the result knocked my socks off. SO, I redid my pic the way he demonstated (well, kinda), here it is:

COOL FEATURE: I uploaded all versions (the sketch, the first pic, joachims pic, and my final pic), including the story behind it. Check it out!

Hey, looks allot better !
...more depth and skin on the character.

it's nice to see that you've kept on working on it..... one small thing... Next time you could maybe work rough and play around with the picture even further into the process...-makes it more fun to paint

Anyway, good work, keep it up !

Have you seen the paintings done for the Diablo II ads? This reminds me of those paintings, not only in subject matter, but in technique and style as well.

Great work Both of you! But I think when you changed the picture to what Joachim thought it should look like Oscar....it lost allot of its original character.....its not even the same feeling now. I'm not saying your picture is bad Joachim(in fact its very good) But I find it very sad when people push their art style on other people. Im not in anyway trying to piss anyone off. This is totally from an Objective point of view.

SightX, I know... but I was just practicing my shading skills. What the character looked like while doing that didn't matter to me, really

SightX,

I can understand what you try to say, but that was really not my intention. Personally, I think it would have been stupid if I tried to push my style over to Alex. And of course I think it is important that everybody finds their own style.

But, when Alex sent me the pic, and I offered to brush on it, the intention was to show some different posebilities with the picture, not pushing for another style (though, I probably got a bit carried away ).
I also think that the best way to improve, is to see other peoples work and thoughts to use that when envolving your own style, offcourse without trying to rip it off, but instead try to pick out the good aspects.
Personally I think that it can also from time to time, just for learning puposes, be good to see and draw off other peoples work.

So, SightX, Alex didn't draw off the picture the way I thought it should look like. In fact, I don't think what I did is supposed to be some sort of answer to how it should be, just another way of thinking ...-and it was his own choice to work out the picture with such influence from what I did.
