This question is for everyone but i would appreciate it if dahbi could reply. I have been drawing for some time now (mostly while teachers talking and im supposed to be "learning") and im pretty good at it. Anyways, i just got photoshop and im learning how to use it. how long did it take you guys to go from paper and pencil to getting decent looking digital art.
I knew my parents didn't like me when my bathtubs playtoys were a plugged in toaster, and an electrical outlet.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has parents like that.
I'm not that good of an artist, but I *can* tell you my first pic was a total piece of shite..... very very flawed and plain old ugly. After that, I started monkeying with different styles, and brushes and each pic, IMO, after that first one has gradually gotten better.
I think the most important thing to do is to think out your pic....after that, it just sort of comes....

While my foray into the realm of digital painting began only recently, I have been using Photoshop for 6 years now. I got it back when it was version 2.5 and am in the process of aquiring the 5.5 upgrade.
Let me tell you, the first dozen or so images I cranked out of PS were absolute crap. I still have some of them on the drive and they embarass me. They are absolutely terrible. But, after years of practice, my skills have developed to a point where I'm no longer committing garbage to valuable 1's and 0's on my hard drive.
So, my answer to your question is "years".

I first started computer art when i was like 12, but it was barely anything, i'd just mess around in MS-Paint and then did a lot of pixel by pixel drawing for a couple years. Finally a few years ago i got photoshop, but i think because of just previous experience with digital art i got into photoshop pretty easily and was comfortable with it within a couple drawings.
