I was wondering how in Photoshop you created your newest art (filename: untitled1.jpg)? I would think a dodge/burn paintbrush, or colors achieved through dodge/burn were used, but I'm probably wrong. I'm asking because some of my best art is done quickly, but have never really worked out digitally. Maybe your technique could help me out.

Though it would be best to get it straight from Dhabih, I think there's a thread about dodge/burn, maybe even a tutorial somewhere (I can't remember)... if Dhabih doesn't have time to reply, you might try a search or 3

Mm.. more specifically,

I was wondering how the brush strokes and the colors in the image were achieved.

I've worked with dodge/burn before, but have never seen it used in a painted style. I probably could find a tutorial, but thought I'd try asking you first

hellooo,

Well....actually with that image dodge and burn was used very limitedly (is that a word?). The main portion of the image was using the paintbrush and choosing colors. One thing i've recently started doing is when i put down two values, and what to blend between (without using the smudge tool which i dont feel i have enough control with) i will overlap the two values, select the mid value (this is done easily by holding down the alt key while in paintbrush) and use that to draw between them again. I find this a good way to to blend quickly, and a side effect of this is the more painterly look.

The dodge and burn i used on this image at the end when i wanted to highlight some areas, like the top of the head and the eyes and such.

here is a link to the only in progress file i have of this image, perhaps it can help. With all layers shown, you will see as far as i got without the dodge and burn, and when you compare it to the final you may be able to see where i used dodge.

i shrunk the size to make it easier to download.
