I really need help coloring the surroundings in this pic, especially the ocean. Can any of you do a quick(or not) job of coloring it so I can just have an example of techniques on background coloring.(and character coloring if you're feeling so ambitious )

There really is some detail in the shadows. I painted it on a mac and now I am looking at it on a PC. Very strange and very dark.
Hey Immi, how bout an explanation for this as a column? With Golongria's approval, of course.

That is quite an amazing image, spooge demon, to write the least.
Did you paint it from scratch? If so, any reference?
In awe.

Totally inspiring, spooge.
Very impressive how you can touch-up/create a picture and always manage to give it such a fantastic atmosphere and depth.
I really envy your talent!

Damn Spooge...
It looks almost totally photographic.
The blue brown and yellow colours fits very well together and the depth is fantastic.
Love your work.

To me it looks like a 3D rendering untill you look close and see how rough the lines realy are. The mood of this image reminds me of Dhabih's "Broken" |

dog gonnit. i'm not saying a damn thing.
Instead I'll try and sound smart by talking composition.
Shifting the horizon to the mid point like that; any particular reason? or just going with what came to mind? |

Well hell man, Spooge, instead of oogling over my drawing (laughs hysterically that anyone would oogle over his pic), they all complemented you. Just kidding, thanks for that version of it. Think you could give me your steps in creating it? |

Oh yea, that was my first digi art, with a mouse and without paintshop, or any respectable paint program for that matter. |

quick questions spooge:
how were you able to fix the perspective from the original drawing so well? I know it must be a hard one to answer, but is there some kind of technique you used, or just experience?
Also, how long did it take you?
thanks

Spooge, sounds like an awesome idea...and I guess this would be a good time to reveal to the world that our buddy Spooge will be doing a monthly column on 3D Palette in which he gets to rant if he wants (ala Paul Steed), do revisions of peoples work, and provide various artistic advice. Or if he's so inclined, he could probably just post lots of Sports Illustrated swimsuit pictures...but whatever he does, ya know its gonna rock!!!

I'm all for the explanation thing Spooge and Immi. I'm still jealous of how easily you re-did my pic though, and took over the post, but hey, I'm new here so I guess I can't complain. |

Spooge doing a regular column on 3d Palette is a really good thing. I'll be looking forward to it. |

What's hush-hush? The last to know...
Thanks everyone for your compliments, I am a little surprised how much people like that one. I really liked your drawing, G.
here is the full rez, it is pretty disappointing. It is a very simple pic.
4MB PSD file
I will go into more detail with your other questions in the column. |
