Is it just me or are there half a dozen new "sooper dooper, bigger than all the rest gallery" sites people are trying to make?
Or am I nuts and they're all the same one?

My site isn't exactly "new", but it just hasn't been launched officially yet since it's still under contruction. I've started working on it halfway Januari 2000.

Anyway, I actually built my site for the galleries (or archive... whatever) alone, but over time, more and more elements came to mind. So now it's turning out to be a huge resource for Digital Artists. Hell, 3D Palette and I will even be joining forces any day now (not just hosting).

Maybe we should let the forum people vote for which site will be used. Mine or someone else's. Democracy rules

I personally see no reason why a completely new website must be constructed when there's already such a fine one as Oscar's. It's got a lot of very nice content already and would suit perfectly to host the Digital Art gallery we've all been talking about. Especially considering the fact that his site will soon be merging with 3DPalette's.. This means TONS of already excisting exposure. Besides, I'm confident Oscar will do a fine job of setting up the necessary stuff.

You've got my vote Oscar,

Danny

And Oscar's is just so pretty

I'm assuming there is a pretty complex backend to the site too, am I right? Or do you do all that updating by hand?

Currently, only the links section is updated though a backend system (linkadd.php3). But I'm still working on a web-interface to maintain other, often updated, parts of the site... BTW, I becha you didn't see the onMouseOver() on my pic yet

why not just let people put up whatever sites they're working on, and let demand dictate who is the 'winner'? you're not going to stop anyone by saying "lets all use this one!" competition is generally a good thing anyways.

even if these pages are a variation on the same theme, the variations could be interesting. i know i'm always wishing there were more regularly-updated sites out there.

More sites of the same subject (with different content) is okay, but several sites sharing the same content (archive) isn't. That's why we're trying to decide which site to use... mine or a completely new one, which would take a while to set up. And as far as I know, there is no competition whatsoever, we're just trying to help eachother. I hope this made sense...
