Everyone doodles absentmindedly on paper and its thought by some that these doodles reveal a lot about your personality / subconscious or whats going on in your life.
For the last 10 years I've always drawn eyes, usually followed by a raised eyebrow, snarly mouth and nose. Sometimes I variate things, different expressions but invariably I draw faces when have a blank as the paper in front of me...
.. now, I'm not looking for an analysis here of what that says about me as being like most artists, I've already undergone heavy self analysis!
I'm just wondering what is you all end up drawing when your not thinking?

when i doodle, it tends to be abstract stuff, like geometric or organic shapes. im also not that good at drawing people. i have to work at that. ill also draw flowers, just made up ones, dont know why, just like to do that. other times i just experiment, not really knowing what im doing. basically just make a mess on the screen and see what happens. |

I draw curving to sharp stabbing lines which I fill in. To form horn like things. I just keep flowing them out from a point on each other, alot of the time a face appears in them.
I've found a dooddle to show but it's not like what I was thinking of... it's the only one that's on my hdd thou..

I find that with all the time I spend in front of the computer, my doodling is taking place with my wacom in photoshop or painter. The funny thing is, a lot of these doodles have turned into finished projects.

Actually, I don't doodle. I've never doodled. The only time I do things absentmindedly like that is when I have my various musical instruments turned on
probably shows in what I do (my lack of "a life in drawing" that is)
I tell ya though, I've seen some amazing doodlers. And they usually seem to have no inclination to draw anything on purpose too.
The only kind of drawing they do is doodling. |

Hey, good topic Rorshach! I'm with you, I tend to draw faces, although usually they're sort of odd, with big bulging eyeballs or something. I also draw a lot of stuff that is similar to tatoo art.
Man, my schoolbooks are absolutely filled with doodles. I think there are more doodles than there are words. I had a teacher who told me if i drew on any more of my work that had to be handed in, she would give me an automatic F.
Heh heh, luckily she changed her mind after i bodyslamned her, but it was a close one...
Hmm, i reckon everyone should scan in some doodles. that would be cool.

Oh yeah, while you're here Ror, I never got the chance to say thanks for helping out with our skin contest, so THANKS! It was much appreciated. I'm sorta suspicious though...you went on a holiday right after giving us your results. I dunno, sounds like someone was payed off or something...

Seems we all have to thank doodling to get us through those boring classes..
I have a bad tendency of daydreaming.. I will think of something randomely, and it will stem from there.
My doodling is the same. I usually just draw a random shape, or line, kinda like a scribble.. "hmmm... what could this be a part of.." and go from there. It's very spontaneous. Thinking and concentrating too hard can trap ya. Good for the creative juices I guess. |

I do faces, too, though as my last post demonstrated, they often get a bit mutated.

Mine almost always start out as eyes, then arched eyebrows, then the rest of a face...just like Rorshach said. i don't doodle while on the phone much, but i've been doing it a bit lately... I also tend to start out wit a few lines, then keep making lines branching off until it starts to turn into something. it often turns into some design coming off a face or something. Like so:

I draw everything from faces to patteerns,
grefitti....It's mostly pretty random how the
result turns out. It's very interresting when you talk i the phone and draw at the same time, and suddenly the subject of the conversation suddenly sneaks up in the drawing. I've made a whole section with
Doodles by the way. Check it out if you want.

I doodle a lot of faces too, mine usually start with the eyes too, then the nose. Here is one that didn't, though. This one I just kept adding lines to all day long...

heh seems a lot of people do faces, but then thats not surprising as people are very common in life and in our thoughts and thus they leak out when not thinking.
The fact that a few of us go abstract after the main characteristics of nose eyes mouth etc is no surprise either.
These are the key features we look at in a person. I Often stylise the cheek bones pulling them up into segmented bone parts that look liek a cross between horns and stepping stones..
stepping stones more accurate i guess, after all they are the part of the design that leads into another doodle
If i knew how to embed a pic as example i would but i dont!

For me, back in high school, I did lots of drawings of Street Fighters and X-men on my textbooks. I did them with pencils and pens. Sometimes, I even pencil coloured them.LOL.
The teachers did complained about it.
Yep I did lots of faces and eyes as well.
Maybe it doesn't mean anything and maybe it does. I think I did faces and eyes because I wanted to be able to get expressions right so that I can do comics. |

For what my reply is worth, I don't start with faces. I am sick of faces doing them every day for 3 hours.
You wouldn't believe it but I start with, hmmmm, a knee, and I ussualy end up with some sorta Orc or Ogre or even a Goblin (Yes, I am a Warcraft lunatic).
I think I'll post some of my doodles transformed into a real sketch on my page soon, so you could have a look.
Thats it,

I never get a picture in my head before I draw, i might get some kind of idea but things usually come to me while im just sitting back listening to some music (mainly stuff like aphex twin or orbital). I'll click photoshop open and put my tablet on my lap and just start sketching, if it seems like a cool idea i'll take it one further and clean it up/color it.
there's really no resemblance or pattern in the images I do. I mean I did a knife, then a hand, then a naked angel-woman, now im doing a ronin type of guy looking out over some scenery. *shrug*

I really just draw. Faces, lines, I've phased out of continuous eights, random lines, yadda yadda yadda. It's about 90% of it happens at school, so I'll sought through my books and scan some in.
Very intriguing topic tho...

I usually doodle faces too, usually scary lookin ones, and they like to smoke too heh, or demon head's, or little bit's of machinery which usually end's up lookin like a big mess. I did this one while I was on the phone
was on it for a while hehe. Kinda liked how it turned out tho, a lot of my finished
artwork have started from doodles. Actually the majority of the time I draw I never really have a plan of what it's gonna look like, just kinda appears.. oh well maybe I am just a madman ;P

i don't doodle at all. i must be some kind of freak.
when i was in school, my teachers drilled into me that you don't draw without thinking. i've found that i do get much better results when i'm concentrating on the drawing, and i often get frustrated if i can't concentrate 100%.

i dont really doodle that much, but when i do its like amnesia i just draw horn things, i kinda suck at drawing so thats the only shape i can do that really looks good
this one i did a year ago or so on paper, and later changed it into paths. i really like it, i was supposed to do something with it but its just been on my hd all the time...
i see a pig face, some exotic flower, and this bird...uhh colibri its called i think, and a boot at its head,,uhh yeah,,,,really weird....and all this by just drawing hornlike shapes...
http://m02.webjump.com/Images/zhapes2.gif
this next doodle i did directly in photoshop by just drawing lines with the pen tool and bending them to make that hornlook...and yeah some layerblending thingie i made up to make it look glasssy
http://m02.webjump.com/Images/glass-spikez.jpg
and i wouldnt call it not thinking...i mean your brain is working in some way to make you draw what you draw.... kay, hope the pics work..
