I did a really gory texture-map the other day:0
It's only a rough test. It was Painted in Photoshop. You can go to the site to see it on the model(in the 3d-section)

Looks cool. =) Too bad the 43 polygons it's mapped on doesn't do it justice. =)

Whoa, that really is something. How did you get that extremely lovely natural texture on it, almost like an old wall or something? Just painting with custom brushes or something else?

Great work, I like the grain too... Watercolour? (In painter)
Oh, it's symmetrical, isn't it?

Yes it's totally symmetrical, i was a bit
lazy and had to make it as fast as possible.
No painter, it's a photoshop piece.
The skin was done for a realtime character so the amount of polygons are low, but the texture makes it look a hell better than without.
Sometimes to get a texture on a pic i create several layers over the pic and take some photo-textures over it(rust, metal, stone) and choose the overlay or multiply options and then play around with the opacity, until i get the look that i want. Hold on i'll post an example.....
This is how it looks before i applied textures over it:

You can see that the amount of details
are greater on the first one. Another thing
is that you'll get a lot more colour variations on it, wich will give it a more realistic look.

Dennison: http://www.katode.org/noguchi/web/3dmisc.htm

Micke: It does look good, but it just depends on the overall polygon budget allocated to the total mesh... head meshes usually take up over a third and almost half the polygon weight on a human mesh for obvious detail reasons. The texture is awesome. Love your work. =)

cheers.

I know that the mesh is low poly. It
depend on how many characters there's gonna be at the same time(on the screen) In this case,i could'nt have a lot of details(polys) on the head, so i had to draw every detail in the map. i also have to prioritise with the budget of polys what part on the body that's gonna be most visible to the player. in this case the head was'nt it.
