This is my first attempt at painting an image following the tutorial on Dhabih's home page. I traced the outline of the girl from a photo. She is supposed to be wearing some kind of armor, but I couldn't get that to look exactly right. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. Any tutorials for metals (armor) and especially stone would be great (I have seen the ones at Tutorial Warehouse).
This is a link to a page with the original image, and the first direction I tried to go. I wanted to make some metallic wings, but it wasn't turning out the way I wanted. I may just give up on the whole project. I think it would be better to start from a sketch anyways, rather than a photo. That way I don't have any kind of reality to compare my work to.

comments would be appreciated.

It looks good, although some lines are off; for instance, the line at the left-top of her underwear seems out of perspective (too high) and gives her left 'cheek' a very long look -- seems odd. Otherwise the shading is good (except on her lower right-side bum and higher back right thigh, the original doesn't have that.)
The background perspective seems good, athough the vanishing point should be a little more outside the screen to the right, to correct the extreme angular distortion at the top of the arch. The color is also *pure* grey, try giving it a general tint of green or blue or something, also adding some subtle contrasting colored details to the stone.
Otherwise it's very nice, needs work still =)
Keep it up. (next time, also try to do something freehand if you can=)
cheers.

Thanks for the input!
I still don't know if I'm going to
scrap this project, and move on. I
am leaning towards scrapage.
Still intersted in any other, good
tutorial sites. |

Hiya Dude,
Not bad. What looks odd to me is the shadow next to her lips; you know, the black curvy line shadow? Yup, it looks a bit to dark as if it's sunken in.
The way you coloured the bikini like armour or outfit looks like it's thick and rubbery. But that maybe just me.
Nice job on the cape though. It looks like fabric.
One last suggestion, maybe you can add a horizon line to your pic so that it would separate the ground. Right now there doesn't seem to be a definition of where the ground is.
Those were just my opinions.
Keep practising. |

Practice makes perfect!
Yeah I definitely need to keep practicing.
I forgot to mention that this pic is
unfinished. The background I just put in,
but was at a loss as to how to make the
bricks and floor look like stone. I
thought about putting a fountain or a
bon-fire outside. |

Hi Dude,
Well, let me start by saying you should keep working on this a litlle more.

As for geting the more armmor look? work on some sketchs of clothing.. add some Cloth into it.

Underware does not equal Armor.
My mistake on the armor was using the
outlines of the lingerie for the outlines
of the armor. I wanted the picture to
stay as sexy as it was with her wearing
underware, but change the theme.
Next time the whole image comes from my
knoggin!
