mongoose - it's two words combined:

monster and goose

I suppose you know what a monster is. A goose is a bird. A mon-goose is a huge bird with big red eyes and rzazorsharp teeth in it's black beak ... so be careful, he might come and get you! And after your "how old are you" post that spawned all this, I might even show him the way!

Actually, a mongoose is a furry little rodent type creature that eats snakes.

Ever seen Timone and Pumba from the Lion King? Uhh.. one of them is a mongoose (i forget which one is which, it isn't the fat piggy one).

I think thats what its called.
It was also an animated movie/show I think.
Its about a mongoose pet, who is protecting the family he lives with against a couple of snakes. Really cute animation.
