character creations? hm. i could think of some cool stuff.. i would think of emotions / characteristics of this character . [how did that sound hmm.]
but think: strong, or a weak guy, evil, a guy in pain, or he is about to do something, or he has already has done something(meaningful). could think of a setting too like a guy/gal/mutant/robot/whatever, in a certain setting and that dictating on what the character does, or what the character is.
hm, did that help? or was it just rambling...

Oh yeah It did help!, but, the problem is that I haven't done any characters or illustrations like dhabih, I've done many 'quite simplistic' 2d images, textures, disc-covers, etc.. But I'd really like to get started in the same context as dhabih (or any other guy [I mean person] like him), making some really cool unrealistic pics, but I'd like some help of how to start and then worry about the creations, anywayz thanx a lot!. |

I've been working on some Character designs at work. If you wanna take a peak click the link below and go to either the projects-section or the 2d-gallery.
I think an easy way is to think of what type of person the character is and then imagine
him in the right enviroment(setting).
Check out the art of starwars for example,
the designs and characters are just amasing.
Hope this can help in any way.

Hi all!
When it comes to character creation, some of the best stuff I have seen to date is in the book "Maya 2 Character Animation" published by New Riders.
The first 106 pages are about character concept and design, and has nothing at all to do with the technical side of 3d character creation... it's all about brainstorming, storyboarding and so on. It really blew my mind, probably because I've never taken a class in those specific topics.
But it's really my new bible! The rest of the book is also very impressive. But unless you are learning Maya at the same time, this book might be a little overkill...
If anyone knows a good book on general character concept/design, then please post!!!

AND KEEP IT FRESH DAMNIT.
I hate when people start copying.
if we all wanted copies we'd go to kinko's
(Kinko's is a photo copy shop)

Sorry, I mis-spelled something in the last post, instead of 'unrealistic', I meant 'surrealistic'... |
