Here's my first piece of artwork with my new wacom tabet. Yaaay. Going back to a mouse now is like trying to draw with a brick!

WOW! Thanks for all the great feedback!!

I worked on the picture over approx 4 afternoons, all up probably about 8 hours.

Funny, the hair was pretty easy to do (i just built it up laying down dark tones and building it up with lighter tones and thinner strokes, I had to put much more effort into the skin!

I tinted the skin slightly with colours using a new layer in overlay mode and took down the opacity of the layer.

By the way i did use an image of a girl from a magazine for reference...

Hi Eddy,

great stuff! Good use of colour. I agree with you that hair usually is easier to do than skin. Then again I've always liked doing complex hair stuff. If there's one point of critique I might add, then it would be for the background. The vertical-grain filter is too evident if you ask me. But hey.. I'm nit-picking.. Good going!

Danny..

ps.. She looks like Tia Leone.. am I right?

Dennison,

with too evident I meant that it's clearly showing up as a plugin effect. Kinda fits into the Lens-flare category if you know what I mean... Just so there's no confusion, I am refering to the noisy darkened vertical lines spanning across the background. Eddy did a cool job on the figure make no mistake about that..

That's all..

Danny

Verticle grain? In the same category as lens flares? Arg. It's not that bad?

I do tend to avoid using the default wack a plugin here effect, but here i actually used an ocean ripple also in the background too. I thought that would be more obvious than the vert. grain! I don't think i've seen anyone use it before...

Anyways, thanks for all the great feedback!! It keeps me going... I'll post my next image up soon. Any requests?

Ed.

PS. While doing this image i found the best method for a palette for the skin tones was to make a gradient strip of the darkest tone to the lightest and use the picker on that. I put the strip on the same layer as the skin so if i adjusted the brightness/contrast or the hue/sat. it whould alter my 'palette strip' too...

Wow, gorgeous skin tones. Pretty great pic overall, though there are some issues with the face, mainly around the brow and nose. Keep it up, i'd love to see more!

i don't think I can add anything not already said.. bloody beautiful skin tones, btw. Love it. The eyebrows are a bit hyper-detailed in comparison wit hte rest of it though... blur em just a smidgen. Not to much.. jsut enough to take out some of the crispness of it...
