I agree. Got the same "elfwood's slowly creeping in" feeling.

I guess its because the drawing-beginners slowly take about 50% of the active forum population. Nothing bad with that as long as they try to be true to themselves and others and not tell them "thats so fucking great" when it sucks.

I have no problem with questions or bad pictures being posted as long as there is the feeling that the one posting it tries to improve and not spam the forum with 100 bad sketches.

I mean when you get serious feedback once you will have something to work on for some time. If its just post after post with no apparent improvement or change the posts are just a waste of everyone's time and forum space.

So time to give away some rock hard cruel reality based critique instead of just milk and honey.

I think the point is to offer constructive criticism. I agree that there seems to be posts that offer little more than praise, which doesn't help alot, but rather than shit on people who post work that you feel isn't all that great, maybe just offer some advice that will help them improve their work. Which, I think, is what this forum is all about. I've gotten alot out of it since I started coming here, and it'd be great if it stayed useful for everyone, without making people feel like they can't contribute without getting shot down in flames...

I'm going to take this moment to complain here, because, I feel, if I say this in the Digi Art forum, I'll get a bunch of assholes complaining. So here it is: Have you all noticed how obnoxiously syrupy sweet most of the responses have gotten in the Digi Art forum? Everytime someone posts some shit 5 minute sketch, there's always like five people replying back, "Oh, that's so great! I hope to see it finished!"

It reminds me of fucking Elfwood. I fucking hate Elfwood.

I was kind of thinking about the same thing just now.. Well, not exactly, but anyway. I saw that Micke's 'girl with cloth' thread had already gotten 20 replies.. I mean, no offense - it looks good and all, but it is 'just' a girl with a cloth, and knowing Micke, probably didn't take too long. There's not much to critique. Some sort of self-moderation neeeds to get going here, so people would only post stuff people can really critique, so the posters would actually learn from the critique instead of just posting quick sketches to be wooed over. I think this applies most to the more skilled people here, since their technique is, by definition, better, and so they probably won't learn very much from what little critique we can give on 10-minute sketches. Yes, it's nice to see their work, but this forum is getting really crowded and we need to figure out a way to streamline it a bit. I guess it's time to start thinking about what this forum is really here for.
