I'm usually very busy. No way I can check into this forum every day multiple times. Just as I'm sure many others have limited time at their disposal.

I used to love coming to this Digital part of this forum, but now it's simply overwhelming. People asking "What's your favorite comic book", "What wacom is best (sigh)", "Art schools?!?!", plus all the other even less related posts.

Would it be TOO much to ask that people moderate themselves and post where appropriate?

If indeed it IS too much, maybe the forum should be made a wee bit harder to join. Like, sign up now and you'll get to post in 5 days.
Also, before anyone could get to register, it should be mandatory to read a guidelines of usage for the forums.
---what? You say people will simply skip these guidelines and press 'accept'? In that case, simply embed the registration link in the actual agreement somewhere, so it takes actually reading the guidelines to find the link, and make the ordinary 'accept' button pop up a nasty java script message asking how lame you can get!

*sigh* .. alright, it'll never happen, but I can wish, can't I?

--------------------------

As promised in topic, here's a good idea to limit SPAM:

Let everything be as it is right now. BUT erect an additional posting board. So all in all three boards. This one, (random musings), Digital art, and the new one : Digital Art SPAM-FREE!

hehe

How to keep it spamfree?
(or at least almost spam free)

It'll be done by only accepting into this forum people who have proven to post constructively and on topic.

I don't mind people who doodle and ask for help on anatomy. By all means, we're here to help one another. But enough is enough - drop the "What's your favorite flavor of Coke" topics please.

I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed and hope I wake up to a spamfree board.
If I don't, I'll just do as I've started to; Only check the posts by people I'm familiar with. Sad but necessary.

DIE SPAM!! DIE!!!

Faust, (and others of that opinion)

Quit your bitching and contribute to a solution instead of criticising!

Especially you faust. You usually have mature views on things. I didn't expect this kind of reply from you.

If people don't like my suggestions - feel free to suggest other in-your-mind-acceptable ways to do it.

Maybe it wasn't such a hot idea. But I think we can all agree something has to happen, otherwise the talented (and busy) people will leave this forum or frequent it much less than they have in the past.

Some have already left, and it's a damn shame.

c'mon people, if you read this, and you're tired of the chaos on the other board, come with some suggestions on how to go about fixing this problem.

How about this idea then....

There will be two Digital Art boards. One that everyone can post to, and one that you can't post NEW topics to, until you have posted at least 5 pictures on the free board, and you have been registered for at least a month.

You can still reply to the topics on the restricted board, and do what you normally can. Just not start new topics until you fulfil the requirements.

How about that one? Good ne? I'm more pleased with it myself, than the other one which I admit is flawed.

It'll make sure that people have a bit of seniority and hopefully know that spam isn't valued. It'll also keep all the non picture posters from starting FAQ topics.

Not a perfect solution, but I'm sure it'll go a long way towards fixing the problem as it is now.

The digital section must be a sort of club. And you have to be accepted into this club based on work (are you up to professional standards in your field), time (how long have you been a member?) and are you here to get better or just show how good you are to everyone else. I don't think I have to name any names.

Everyone should be allowed to read the posts and responses regardless of if they are members or not, but only members can post.

Rules for members should be to be a little thick skinned about peoples responses to your work. Don't take it personally if they tell you it needs a lot of work and that goes as well for the other people critiquing your work not to make rude or dishonest remarks about someones art based on your opinion of that person.

These are just a few suggestions that I think would make things on the forum more fun and less chaotic.

We need rules. The rules are meant to give us more fun and freedom in the long run.

Just some suggestions
