Do any of you wonderful fan boys have links to sites with comic coloring tutorials? I noticed that the topic comes up from time to time but not much comes of it... or am I cluckin'? The more links the merrier.
(If someone comes up with something real good I just might send free beer...)

I cant stay mad at you, Look at that poonum!

But realy, Comic Coloring is simple.
1) Draw your pic with nice thick black lines.

2) Scan it as a grayscale (200 dpi), adjust the contrast so it is only B&W.

3) Make a new layer, Fill it with white, and make it the bottome layer.

4) Select your layer with the outlines, Goto "Select Color Range, pick a white area, make the fuzzyness 100, delete the selected white areas.

5) Change the file to RGB

6) Make a new layer, make it the top layer, and apply the "Multiply" screen to it. This will be your color layer

7)use the magic wand to select the parts of the outline layer and color them with solid colors.(COLOR ONLY ON THE COLOR LAYER!)

8)This is the fun part. Make firends with the Dodge and Burn tool and how its settings work for different colors and intencitys. Work with single color areas at a time by useing the magic wand tool.

Do this 3 times and you should be able to impress your firends.

VOILA!!!

I apologize to all those I may have insulted today... I have to admit that when I think of a fanboy I think of the fat comic store owner from the Simpsons. How about fanmen?

just like to mention i am a die hard fangirl! 6000+ comics baybeeeeeee and pround of my obsession!...

and as for the comic colouring, what style you want? recent? or oldschool... recent is like sc00p, liquid style, which is my personal fav, and all it is is the magic wand tool, select a large area of where a light source would hit, then on a screen layer, colour a shade lighter, then repeat until desired affect is obtained. for reference check your books man! or www.go-liquid.com .... oh yeah practice practice and practice, or maybe een check out a former post by sc00p about his FANBOY pic, it tell you some colouring techniques i think

Hey,

Just visited comiccolors.com, and, even though comics should be comics, I just can't help but think that there is some VERY amazing line art in there that the coloring does absolutely no justice... I can just imagine how great some of those pics would look if colored by some matte painter (for example), with tolerable and sensitive color saturation and selection, and proper lighting and shadowing, good reflections, influencial light radiosity, etc.

(Hope I didn't insult anyone [comic colorists and fans alike] by writing this, it's simply an oppinion of mine.)

Basically, what I'm saying is that many people should try looking into their choice of colors and start thinking about how ambiant lighting and light reflection/refraction affects the hues and values of objects in a scene...

(I'm of course not pointing a finger at anyone -- I need to work on that myself.)

Here's an example:

The way i did it was simply by free-handwith no layers(it's old). I would have done it different
now by scanning in the sketch, create a layer and color it flat and make another layer over it and add the shadow colours.

Gaaah! I can't post any new pic's in a while.
