Hey Guys and Gals,
I am desperately wanting to get into skinning, but I don't know ANYTHING about it.
For example, what program do I use to make the skins, or export them, or whatever you do? How do I know the measurements and stuff? Are there tutorials on how to do it?
ANY information would be soooo greatly appreciated. (ahem, Acryl).
PS - Those skins in the 3D Palette Q3A Skinning contest are breath-taking. I liked the fat guy and Acryl's skin best. I voted for Acryl.

hey
I liked ironclad the best. but I don't think he's win somehow.
Umm lesee; with most games photoshop will do you proud. Some say PSP is better because it handles low colour palletes the best.
But with Q3A's 24bit skins it's not such a big deal anymore.
The best way to get started is to rip out the skins from the game and change them. It's the best way to see how the skin is layed out on the model.
Rorschach recently put out a wireframe skin base set for every model in Q3A, which is good for that. (cant remember his site's address of hand)
once things get more advanced you might decide to try and be really daring, pushing the limmits of what the model's shape and animations will let you get away with. Then its a good idea to get one of the model viewers.
Nphernos is the best they say, but there are a few others.
go here http://www.polycount.com/
they have reams of info devoted to this stuff (if their server is up and running ok that is; curse-ed gamespy industries) |

Skinning is what i like most. On my page are some tips/tutorials on skinning (for example shader use), but that's not spectacular, however, in my links section are mucho links to good skinners, of which most have tuts too.
I'd like to recommend you to Krow's page http://squadron.telefragged.com/skin101/ for tutorials.
Hf man
