Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to redesign my page for the 43940958th time.. I have come up with a new interface idea that I think I am pretty happy with. The only thing left for me to do is put it up for critique. Please visit:

http://www.cperry.com

and tell me what you think. It's just a screenshot of what the page will look like when the HTML is done. Thanks guys.

the only thing i would change is the color of the peach/pink background. to me, it doesn't match the rest of it right.

but other than that, it looks great
good job

Thanks

I agree with you, the peach background wasn't the greatest choice of colour. So I changed it

It is different now.

Aaah what happened its grey now! I thought it was better before, its too nuetral now.
I like the overall design though.

I'm going to change my website too, and I wanted whats the best way to have links and buttons?
Should it be an image map where the image is imbedded or should it be a backgound with an image on top. For example how did Dhabih make his page? Which has a faster load time?
Any information about how things are done would be great.
I already know the basics of Html and a little javascripting, but I'm wondering if its worth the effort to make an image map?

Thanks

What do you mean? "Worth the effort to make an image map"?
It's not like you do some special thing to the image. You just set up some HTML and point
it to the image.

Dude, image maps suck!

The only good use for image maps is if you want to have a link that's not in the shape of a rectangle, like a circle, or some odd-shaped polygon. Also, it prevents you form having rollovers, which is kind of the standard nowadays.

I think Dhabih should have sliced and diced his site better, and had rollovers for his links. He makes heavy use of image maps. Well, the site was done 3 years ago, though, so I'm sure he knows what he would change if he redesigned...

Anyway, image maps ahould be your last choice. Check out this guy's page: http://www.bjphotodesign.com
It's a perfect example. All he did was have a .JPEG file for each page and map it.
Oh, btw, he's also supposed to be a web designer/programmer...

Yea, image maps are good in some instances... but others, there not. They shouldn't be a last resort, if you have a client that wants something simple but something pretty, then u can go with the image map...
http://dhk.clanpages.com/temp/test2.html

^^If you want some rollover goodness^^

Check it out, that has a ton of rollovers, well kinda, its strange but I liked it.

Mongoose: IsoNews was bad ass

But throw some color into that site you got there, maybe some greens or something...

Well for you folk that dontlike image maps they are pretty cool if you know how to use them. And you can do rollovers with image mapz too. And give rollovers or mouseover even look better but it takes longer to load the images. ahahaha well
There is example of rollovers with an image map at Y2K Bargains I showed my friend how to do that image map deal but his graphics suck. The whole image changes if you got real good graphics you can get an even better effect when the whole image changes. If you can actually understand what i am saying because I am not good at explaining stuph like this i understand my self

for me the best way is to slice up an image and put it one by one in the page...So javascript mouseovers can be easily implented

i agree on the use of spliced interfaces rather than image maps. if i had only one to choose from, anyway. to splice the images and then use image maps to define the A tag area is a great way to use both. (in case the buttons are not square, or their images are not cropped to the edge of the button)

Yeah, I was partial to your first design. Although this one is more design oriented, as it seems to incorporate the most elements of design, I still think it's a bit lacking. Maybe throw some images faintly in the background, so things like the thin black lines don't pop out so much.
I like all the progression I'm seeing here though, its nice to come up with several ideas before you settle on a layout.
