here's something i did today... nothing fancy, i was bored... i see traditionally.. people doing black and whites with white as the bg... i decided to go opposite with that.. and do black as the bg ... its 100% done in photoshop freehand, no filters.. no scans ... i did use a reference photo .. resembles scratchboard a bit .. anyhow .. give me feedback.. here it is

How did you achive that noise/grain without filters? custom brushes?

it's the lighting, the texture on the face, the contrast.
