Hey guys, we (www.3dpalette.com) just posted an interview http://www.3dpalette.com/features/icewind/ we did (sort of) with Jason Manley of Interplays Icewind Dale. Its quite cool, and he answers quite indepthly what he believes you need to get into the game business as far as experience and portfolio. Here's a pic he did for the game, actually not my favourite, but the load time is relatively small:

BTW, if anyone's interested, check out their main page at www.interplay.com/icewind. There's a big ruckus going on over some stuff Manley said about Diablo II on the message boards. Kind of funny stuff

Hey Tanis

Actually I did ask him, he said that he might be able to once he has finished what needs to be done on Icewind Dale. So i'm crossing my fingers, in the meantime, we have Loki doing one for us soon, so that should rock.

Me, I agree, at least as far as the type of work Manley does goes. Advanced 3d apps is another thing altogether, that'll take much longer to learn, but Painter, for instance, should be quite easy to pick up for someone who has a lot of experience with traditional media, and if you can't draw, all the software in the world isn't going to fill that gap up.

Whoa! hehe since i cant tell him that i disagree with that statement, im gunna say, WHOA I DISAGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT to you and whoever else reads this... hehe YIKES.

maybe i read it wrong? (even tho i read it over 15 times...)

Jason Manley : That is why Black Isle hired me. I knew how to draw and paint. Anyone can learn an art program for computers. They could teach me that in a few weeks. However, it takes years of hard work and perseverance to learn how to make art. I had something like 15 semesters of figure drawing and painting.

hmm....
