I need this visual aid for an engenering presentation. The guy worked on a hunted dungeon many years ago but there are few(no) pictures of any of it.
I understand dodge and burn shading but how do I get realistic fire for the tourches, Fog comeing out of the doorway, and most of all I need to know how to make realistic details on the rocks like chips and scratches

The coloring in this pic was done quickly just to get ideas going.

LeChuck,

If I were you, I think I would put some more thoughts into the basic shapes of the image before thinking about the texturing. I can understand that it can be difficult to draw real fire or rocks, but you should rather browse around the net for some references on some castle structures and fire pictures and try to make the sketch a bit more appeiling.
Then it will be easier to continue...

Just a little constructive advise

Joachim

do you want a cartoon style, or something that looks like real rocks, and real fire?
if the latter, you will have to blow up the image to at least 2000 pixels, to get any detail,. for something like this i'd even make it go a bit higher to get the finite detail,. once at this site, i would go out side and get a rock,.. look at te rock understand the rock, paint a rock in photoshop, paint it again, then once more,. do these at about 1000 pixels each, once you've understoodthe rock, go get a candle,.. take a picture of it,. scan it convert it to b@W, then paint an identical image at about 1000 pixel,. do this about 3 times,. then,. and only then try to finish this image

by that time, you'll prolly understand the textures you need for the image,. it seems tedious,. but to get good art all you need to do is practice,. i don't know of any other way to get this done w/out getting someone else to do it for ya,....

okay

B

shit....

I don't think he has 5 years to do this project ;P
hehe

But.... what you can do is go to www.corbis.com

Here they have stock photography (that you can buy) But don't have too, most of the images are rather small but they work extremely well for reference... Go search for

ROCK
STONE
CASTLE
FIRE
FLAMES

And you might find something.

Hey LeChuck, you've coloured comic stuff before. Why don't you draw the pic in complete exaggerated comic style? That'd be cool.
