they think the boarders are a nuisance, but the public don't mind them, they're always courteous and never cause any trouble. Theres a huge petition going around to stop it.

Let me show off my country

In the Netherlands, you can buy "light" alcohol (up to about 7%) from the age of 16, legally. Everything above that is 18+. However, noone will ever ask for your age in a store, unless you look terribly childish. So we dont have a practical age limit for alcohol. Noone cares, we dont have laws against public intoxication either

It's called Manzana Lift and it Does kick ass.
When I was there (several times last year) they didn't have my beloved Dew, but I satisfied my desire with wonderful fizzy Apple juice.
