I find it hard to pick the color i want, and basically i NEVER pick the color i imagine! In some other programs they have a very great thing which is a cool palette where you can add an overlay of tints, darkening, hue, etc
but choosing the colors in PS palette i find a total btch! I tried putting few colors on the canvas using light airbrush so the colors touch eachother creating a gradient, but it was a btch too. HULP CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLORS!!

Gradient? WHy didn't you just use the gradient tool to make this nice gradual array of colors? then use the color picker? Note that you could pick the colors from one pixel or 3x3 and 5x5 sample. The color finders and the swatch is nice too.

I don't know how relevant this is, but I'd like to share how I pick my colors.

In Painter, I've created a palette that consists of 12 typical colors found in an oil painter's palette. I make any colors I need by mixing those colors, along with black and white, with a blend tool. I think this helps create a more unified color palette for the picture, instead of just picking random hues all over the place. Ialso tend to leave blotches of color around the edges of the image to be used as a selector. You can see an example of this in http://funhousedigital.com/temp/redhead.jpg.

hey nice! actially.. i really liked the system of colors i saw in my Interior Design class (when i woke up one day in that class.. hmm never happened again) welp i liked the color wheel and doing stuff to it makes more combinations of colors that actially fit together because of the same value! Too bad there is no plugin that puts a color wheel instead of the swatches in Photoshop, or there is but i dont know about it ;o

I find I just don't care. My airbrush pressure is usually so low that the wrong colour can become the right one with a delicate touch, or pick the opposite and try again. 'course most want things done a little more precise than that (not to mention quicker)

There you can have a color wheel, I mean is PS, there's a funktion for it.

Unfortunately that ain't possible in pc version, so maybe you should buy one iMac

The brushes I used are just the default Loaded Oils brush, and a little custom brush I made that's basically a simple circular brush with a little pressure sensitivity on the opacity and size.

are the strokes with the loaded oils supposed to look like that?? one side being darker then the other??
myself i think its rather odd, cos oil paint doesnt work like this...

Loaded Oils does tend to look like that. It's because a "loaded" brush is a brush that's been dipped in two or more colors. If you want to get rid of that look, try adjusting the color variability on the color palette.

Also, like I always tell people, many of Painter's brushes just DON'T look right without a pressure sensitive tablet -- most of the "Brush" variants, including Loaded Oils are among these.
