Illustrator is like Freehand, they're both drawing programs. You can get some pretty good looking things if you know how to use them. One good aspect is that it is vector art which basically means you can size it up and down as much as you want and not worry about resolution. They are mostly used for more technically clean images like informational graphics. Files from these programs also transfer well into photoshop. I use Freehand all the time for work. If you want to see what it can do go to my old web page. It's got mostly art done using Freehand. Some of the stuff I took into photoshop after to add things.

If you get really good at Illustrator, it can look like you did it in photoshop. |

I hate vector-based drawing, it's nice for logo's, icons, clipart and such, but not for cool artwork... That's just my personal opinion though ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/wink.gif) |

actually i believe it depends on what type of outcome you want,.if you're going for the anime/cartoon look go with vector design,. if you want to attempt real life stuff go with photoshop |

Illus is a going to be a pain in your ass if you never used it before. (It is one of my favorite programes)
You need to learn how to use the pen tool first if you want to get anywere. |
