Done quickly in Photoshop of my dalmation sitting in the doorway of my room. Tell me what you think (and I realize it's underdetailed. I was going for a "natural" look).

Very nice. Very nice indeed. I can't put my finger on it, but the front end of the dog looks like he may be hovering above the ground. It may be the way you dodge/burn/smudge, but that's probably just my tired eyes playing tricks on me. Work utterly raped me this past week.

P.S. Am i the only one here that doesn't use Dodge/burn/smudge?

I used the burn tool only a few times. Most of it is done just using the airbrush.
Did another one, this time in Painter... just getting used to the program. It's pretty cool. Should help me with my natural media as well since it doesn't allow me to be as exact as I'm use to.

I use dodge and burn sometimes. It depends on what you're drawing. If you're drawing something reptilian with weird looking skin or something fantasy based or completely fictional, dodge and burn is ok. But if I'm going for realism I'll keep away from dodge and burn.
bTW I like your pic cyber, I like that style. Keep it up! I like the dog more than the man though |

Just wasting this posting space to re-itterate that Painter rocks and IMO is more fun to use than Photoshop.
I know a lot of people that never use it just because of the phenomenal Photoshop stuff out there....

(another painting!)
I do beleive you're right. Painter is a lot of fun to use. Trying to get it to do what you want is a little difficult though (at least for me... but this is the first time I've used it).
Until I get a more recent version of Painter, I'll probably stick to using mostly Photoshop though. (I need my layers!)

Painter definitely doesn't allow you to be as precise as Photoshop in most cases. There IS a simple solution, however: work bigger! There are brushes that can get in there eally small and be very precise, but most of the cool brushes don't go very small, and they tend to look like shite when they're that small anyway. Work big.
