Hi y'all!

I noticed there were some positive reactions on my TBL.org posting...

If you come across any other demoscene-related sites, please post some URLs here, I'd love to check 'em out

BTW, check out Made's artwork, he's a member of B0mB... this guy is ACE! No URL, sorry

Perhaps http://www.scene.org will get you further.

Cheers!

http://personal.inet.fi/taide/timo.harju/

most definetly one of the coolest artist on demoscene.
one of my favourites.

but I would like to say something about Made/Bomb...Oscar...
Made has good style and he's talented in one way, BUT he RIP almost all his pics from Boris Vallejo....and many people in scene doesn't like that...
I think he's very nice artist, but he doesn't have a talent to "draw" on his own, like for example Saffron and timo harju has...and that's a shame...

It's not like I ADORE Made's work, I just think he's very good at pixelling... Now Danny and Louie (TBL), they're talented

It's good to see so many sceners here, I have bucketloads of respect for those guys. Lazur's is probably my favourite scene artist but so many of them kick ass, it's difficult to say; I was never really part of all that being in Wales and all; those parties all seemed too far away.
I've got a load of my old pixel stuff here http://members.aol.com/lutherart for those who haven't seen it.

Tim.

Made has actually done quite a bit of original work although mainly for commercial advertising, not the demo scene.

He recently released what I -think- is his first totally originally, full sized image for the demo scene and it's probably the best image he's produced, so he's certainly capable of doing excellent original work.

I haven't been able to find a link to the image on the net (GFX Zone probably has it somewhere?) but it's called "tree" or something.

That site has a pretty good archive of old demo images.

Hey Luther! Your work looks pretty slick! Did you actually HANDPIXEL that tiger, or is it Photoshopped? Eitherway, I think it's really cool... Keep it up!

Oopz, just noticed the "1993 Gouache on A4 paper" line, above the tiger painting... Scratch my last question please

That's something that has puzzled me about scene work: copying. Now you can consider me a total ignoramus as far as scene stuff goes, but it seems a bit odd that some people specifically mark their work 'no copy'...
Is it really that common for people to base their work on other people's stuff?

Affected:

If you were to look at all (full sized) demo scene images as an entire group (and we're talking about literally thousands of images), probably about 99% will have been copies of some form or another.

If you look at just the output from the last couple of years then the % is better, but it would still be around 80-90% (at a guess).

So yes, traditionally it was generally assumed that if a picture was any good, it was a copy, hence the trend to put 'no copy' on the pics when they were actually original.

(I think that may have been started by Lazur although I'm not totally sure)

Nope, not Lazur - my guess would be Devilstar since he was putting the "no copy" label on his work already in 1992-93 iirc.

Well that puts a bit of a damper on my awe at scene work...
