A friend of mine introduced me to Paint Shop Pro before I became interested in digital media, and insisted that Paint Shop Pro was the best of the best. Not knowing any better, I went along with this program, it wasn't bad. After I mastered it I moved on to Adobe PhotoShop, it was pure quality. I told my friend about this and he replied that he wouldn't mind taking a look at it. He had a look but said it was good, but it doesn't beat Paint Shop Pro. I was appalled, of course PhotoShop is better than Paint Shop Pro, just look at the price and the features! He told me with the release of the latest version of Paint Shop Pro, it will blow everyones minds. He said Paint Shop Pro was getting more and more popular. I think PhotoShop beats Paint Shop Prp in every possible way, from digital artworks to web graphics.

What is your mind thinking of this? Please give me some information to enlighten this fool.

With using PSP 6.0 - the latest, Photoshop 5.0 kicks its ass with out a doubt. PSP is slower than hell with a Tablet, and even a mouse trying to keep up with you're movement, the menus are confusing, the filters suck, everything basically sucks compared to PS 5.0. Plus PS 5.5 offers built in web animation and a shit load more. Tell your friend to take PSP and shove it straight up his roody poo candy ass - oh I'm sorry, tell him he's wrong

(the leading graphic companies around the world use PS, not PSP - what does that tell you?)

Lots of ppl use PSP for skinning. They prefer it on top of PhotoShop, so I guess it couldn't be that bad.

I used to use PSP before trying Photoshop. At first it seemed photoshop didn't have the same power. But after I learned the tools, it became well aparent to me that Photoshop was far superior and I was making stuff that 10x better than anything I made in PSP.

I don't belive PSP is better for skinning than Photoshop. Photoshop has better tools I belive for that kind of work. And the main reason people like PSP for skinning is the palette dithering options for 256 colour (8bit) skins. But if you know how to operate Photoshop well you can do the same thing.

Alot of skinners use paintshop pro... Hell if I know why though.

The better skinners move onto photoshop, or the better 'warez seeker' moves on to photoshop, because well...... shiet nevermind

psp is a lot cheaper than ps. Many amateure skinners go with this for this one reason only.

I suppose the term 'skinner' could also be used to describe someone who makes skins for programs like Winamp. That is, people who make different looks for programs.

spealing of which, I'm going to go check on Neoplanet, in case they've implemented full customizability.. (Hey, I can always hope..)

Photoshop is the Industry Standard.

Period.

Paint Shop is for people who play . . .
Photoshop is for people who work.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned anything from Corel. I hear that once you get past the ultra-steep 'Corel learning curve of Doom' that is almost untouchable.

I have both. I find PSP alot easier to work with than Photoshop for just basic stuff. But when it's time to get your hands dirty Photoshop wins hands down.

I'm a skinner AND photoshopper

I only user PSP for quick viewing and palette conversion (Quake2 uses a special palette). Paintshop Pro is a LOT faster than photoshop but doesn't even come close for Photoshops quality. Especially PSP's JPG compression sux. But for simple alteration you can use PSP i guess.

i use PSP for one thing,. the browse option,. easy to see and open thumbnails,.. it's great when you're working on an animation and you nee to see the differences in hundreds of frames

I know, lots of people use it, but that a viewer ONLY, I mean just for little moderations you have to start up another program when I can edit it immediatly

Anyway, your own way is often best

I'm just stuck in my ways...I've been using ACDSee for nearly a year...

and photoshop since version 3 was out on mac. (thats what I was trained on)

I've got PS 5.5 now (legit copy....I love my boss. hahaha).

When I tried to take a step over to PSP just to see what the fuss was about, I had uninstalled it and vowed never to touch it again within 10 minutes. I will, however, admit that the animation shop rocks! I love using it for quick banners.

you guys need Picaview
browse images from Windows explorer or any file window in any program. thumbnails or full screen (ie; go to open a file in any graphics program and be able to browse any image format without having to open it)
