How come I have never seen of a digital artist who is a woman? They seem to be rare...why? |

Actually, that is pretty weird. It's not like art is a 'macho' thing that doesn't appeal to females.

Well, the first one that comes to mind is Kelly at http://www.topazdesigns.com
It's true, though, that the majrity of CG people are male, probably because the majority of computer enthusiasts are male. Maybe most females just don't find the thought of spending hours upon hours staring at a screen too attractive.

I know I do.
It is weird... now that I think about it all of my internet 'friends' who know anything about computer related things (besides chatting) are male. There's not one female besides myself that I can think of who does anything besides chat.
heh weird, it's kind of sad :\ |

Hey guess what? I'm a digital artist... and I'm female! Yay! Actually I know a lot of them... well sort of. I have a bunch of female friends who do digital artwork, but all of them (myself included) also do a lot of art on paper. Most of them sketch on paper and color on the computer... but that still counts doesn't it? There are tons of us... you just have to know where to look.

A friend of mine is getting a Wacom for Christmas. When she does, I'll see to it that she finds her way to this board.

I've met a few female Quake players thanks to my academic pursuits (weird huh). Some of them are also painters and such.
after reading some of this thread I went on a bit of a hunt for chick graphicians on the web.
And it's true, there's tons.
we should probably just pimp this place a bit. Make it even more of a graphics hub than it already is.
or maybe it's enough that Dhabih built it; they will come. |

on message boards and while chatting ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED SCREAMING,. please refrain, also it is an annoyance for the eyes,..
i know many digital female artists,. I've also taught many how to draw on the computer. but i do know many more traditional female artists than digital ones.

Whenever I see someone write in all caps I think of some idiot teen... The effect is pretty much the same as is caused by bad grammar or failure to use any punctuation marks. So just hit that key labelled 'Caps Lock', or lift you finger off shift. Trust me, you'll seem a lot more intelligent right away.

I couldn't have put it better myself Affected. That is the EXACT impression I get when I see someone typing in all CAPS as well. He's right "Heatha", lay off the capslock for the love of all that is human.

ok, I also think that people who get angry over CAPS is pretty dumb. so what if i left the caps lock on by accident, I wasn't gonna go back and rewrite the think to have ooo, smaller caps. i was in school writiong it fast in between keyboarding lessons. you people need to lighten up, it's just a stupid reply on a mesaage board. You people take these things pretty seriuosly and all i have to say to that is, i'm sorry you have to be like that. is this message board your life? yeah it's a great forum and i look at it every day, but don't get all huffy puffy over one caps lock

There are a couple of doodz around here that think they own this board, and every other message they post is a flame or somekind of a "fatherly" wise remark. (i.e. Affected) No offence, dude... |

I did not say I was angry, did I? I wasn't. I don't get angry. I don't get offended. I simply stated what I think of when someone writes in caps. I like to analyze things, how I feel, how others feel and why that is. I also have a habit of saying what I think. I never aim to offend anyone, keep that in mind.
I don't own this board any more than any of you, and I would like to see where I have flamed someone to correct my ways.

Besides, he didn't say anything that would imply that every teen is an idiot. Just the ones that type all in caps.

affected, you cannot manipulate shrmpish's words for your personal retorts. your name was perentheseid after he said ""fatherly" wise remark", which grammarically speaking, was in direct relation to that segment of his statement. although both sides possess some valid arguments, i dont beleive that any of this will lead us to the greater edification of this forum.
"on message boards and while chatting ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED SCREAMING,. please refrain, also it is an annoyance for the eyes,.."
though, i realize it probably wasn't meant this way, when you wrote this, you attacked heatha's mode of communication, which my friend is where i believe you made your mistake. the reduction of another's actions, does not make one higher than the other, and in this statement, you took a completely arbitral standpoint, thinking that in your decree, you might elevate your position among those on this board, as well as insuring a state of authority. note, this is just the way i see it.
"Whenever I see someone write in all caps I think of some idiot teen... The effect is pretty much the same as is caused by bad grammar or failure to use any punctuation marks. So just hit that key labelled 'Caps Lock', or lift you finger off shift. Trust me, you'll seem a lot more intelligent right away."
this seems to me an elusive approach to calling her an idiot, again attacking her, though, this time, her intelligence. I realize that communication is extremely awkward on the internet, and statements can be misunderstood, but i think that maybe a nice smily face attached to the end of your sentence might have made her feel more comfortable. Also it would better portray your intentions of EDUCATING her, rather than mandating her actions. =-)

You're throwing some pretty heavy analysis up, seeing as there's no way you can now me...I was really bafled about you thinking Im trying to "elevate your position among those on this board", because, frankly, that never occurred to me. That was not my intention. It was not my intention to call Heatha an idiot, either, but if that's the way you've interpreted my words, I apologize. I don't know anyone here, really, so I could not possibly judge your personalities. Especially not based on one post.
As to why I didn't slap a smiley up there, well, when I'm writing something the least bit serious, I try not to use such effects. I want to learn to write so people get my point without using smileys or such. It seems I need to practice more...
As for me "manipulating shrimpish's words for your personal retorts", again, I plead 'not quilty'. What personal retorts? Do you REALLY think this forum plays such an important role in my life that I feel the need to 'get back' at people here? I can only give you my word of this, but I NEVER aim to hurt ANYONE. Period.

If I may step in for a moment, I would like to redirect this coversation back to where it started.
However first I would like to note something.
1. As a chat admin for FortuneCity.com if I see someone using caps I kick them. Its law. ALL CAPS IS ANNOYING. Don't do it. To remark on the observation that most people who talk in all caps are morons...I totally agree. Also, in my experience, most of the people who do so ARE teens (stupid ones at that) who insist on becoming verbally abusive asses after I kick them a few times, which results in a ban. I'm sure that you (bond) don't want to get banned, so keep the caps lock off and the shift key holstered....and for gods sake, don't be so anal when someone comments on the stereotypical capslock enthusiast.
2. Anyone ever noticed that once a debate that starts as witty remarks and counters suddenly turns into "caca doodie head" and the classic "I'm rubber you're glue..." song?
Now, since THAT is off my chest, here is what I wanted to share with you.
http://www.DigitalDivas.com A network of digitally gifted women.
A domain dedicated to a growing army of female digital designers trying to carve their niche.
Its worth a peek. My Fiancee Alicia is an aspiring diva.

ok, i appreciate the clarification. Please dont take my reply as a personal attack against you; i merely meant to show the what the use of your statements could potentially be based upon. im sorry about the "elevation of your status" part, i really was quite...rusty.
again, we see this every day, attacks on people's character, materials, and words (inc. those directed at my above response). I think that in DISCUSSING these things, we can come to appreciate eachother, and our views with more clarity.
