It is incredible to see what we can do with computer technology these days... There is absolutely no limits... After seeing Dhabih's art gallery (espescially the one named "Eclipse")

This is a true work of art... The background is superb and the women in it is beautiful... You've done a great job Dhabih, I am impressed...

I was just wondering if you (Dhabih or all of you --> the ones in this message board) knew a little about Final Fantasy VIII's characters. Does the name Quistis Trepe ring a bell ??? She is one of the main characters in that splendid game. Although the spotlight isn't really on her, Quistis stays (in my point of view) one the most amazing character ever... and her beauty is simply breathtaking... It's incredible how real and beautiful she looks...

So what do you think about her ??? Isn't this a true work of art ???

Perhaps she was created after a model's image... But I don't know for sure...

P.S.: I already posted this topic in the "Random Musings" forum... But it seems that this forum (Digital art) is more popular... Plus, my topic is about art... and beauty...

Please note that the movies and images in final fantasy aren't created using photoshop or any photoeditiing program. They are created in a 3d modeling program called Alias Maya. This program is created by silicon graphics and often requires HEAVY cpu's
Though 3d modeling is also a digital art, it's not the art most of us do.

Hoped to cleared things up a bit

Ok... So it isn't what you do... But I was wondering if someone here (like Dhabih for instance) could create or try to create the same model...

For exemple... How did Dhabih create the woman in the picture called "Eclipse". He did not only used Photoshop... He must have some 3D program (I don't what program, I'm new to the world of digital arts) to create the face and the structure.

Dhabih did not actually create the woman in the picture. The image is based on a photo he found online of the model Bridgett Hall to use as a lighting test. He got to like it so much he put it up online.

Apart from that, it's all Photoshop... (the planet is also based of a photo of the moon, but who's going to hold that against him).

As for FF8... and also FFAnthologies if you've seen the opening movies (or the others) you'll realize one thing very quickly.
SQUARE IS DAMN GOOD!
Watching the FF movies often look like they're not computer generated. The fact that they use a lot of motion capture helps, but their faces and the expressions they're able to show aren't the result of motion capture, it's truely increadable.

Also, though it's true much of the stuff in FFVIII is done in Maya, you have to remember they still have to paint the textures in graphics editing tools... including Photoshop. Also, being a user of 3d graphics tools, I've realised that making a complex shape like a human face, and making one that looks even vaguely realistic is A LOT harder then it is to throw pixels around in Photoshop and do the same.

The amount of time that goes into the creation of just the geometry of the face can take months. Some people might think it's a lot easier than it is... let me a assure you, it's not. I wish it was.

Computer graphics really have come very very far. Most things done in CG still looks slightly plastic, but as computers get faster, and people spend more time on things, images get more and more realistic. Just look at toystory. The CG characters in that movie really look real sometimes. Pixar's work on CG has really brought computer animation leaps and bounds. Most people don't realize they were the first people to create a fully CG animation with texture maps. And if you saw Geri's Game at the start of A Bugs Life, and the island the ants lived on, you'll also realize how close they are to being able to create truely photo realistic images.

Also, if you've seen any of the Final Fantasy Movie, Square has created fully CG, perfectly photo realistic characters. It's been in production for some time now, and they were just looking for a lot more people to work on it a few months ago.

Also, if you guys are interested in 3d CG graphics, I really suggest looking at Taron's site. I've mentioned him before, but it doesn't hurt to put it up again. Also, take note of the ring button on his page... there are some excellent artists in that ring.

an example of Taron's work.

Spike: Also, I'd like to point out that painters and natural media artists have been creating stunning images for centuries that look better than what Dhabih does on the computer. Hell, I've seen someone use colored chalk and pastels to draw velvet on concrete that looked like you could touch it and it'd feel soft.
The fact that Dhabih is able to do it using Photoshop, which is much easier to use to create smooth shading and correct colors for most vs. natural medias shouldn't be a surprise. (If you've ever tried making a smooth blend using Gouache knows how impossible that can be.)

first I would like to say one thing to cyberartist:

THe geometry of human body DOES NOT take months to model. Especially if you are professional 3d modeller. The basic mesh is quite fast to model, but animating it realistic could take months. There are so many things where it depends how much time it will take. I've have had an opportunity to watch professional 3d artists at work and I know what I'm saying.
But you're right in many things you said. It ain't easier to make than painting in PS. But after you've done everything, there's no limits what you can make with your mesh. You can animate it to run or anything, and it's somehow easier than drawing every frame by hand. Well altho these two things ain't comparable. They are so different from eachother. Some artists use 3d models as a sketch and then they draw is PS over it.

And you're right what you said about Dhabib.
I agree with that. I think Dhabib is good artist, but still there's very much more talented people out there. Afterall, making pictures like Dhabib ain't that hard afterall. But try to make same kind of pictures by oil on canvas. THAT's hard.

But I dunno why we discuss about these things...everyone knows these things already what I'm saying. So let's just keep doing what we do and let's try to proceed on everything what we do.

First of all I'd like to say it seems like there are alot of people interested in 3D here, but some of you don't really know what you're talking about...

FF use a lot of Motion Capture in their latest animations for the humans. They're not really keyframed. And I don't find the textures in FF movies to be that good. They all look kinda flat shaded to me. (For humans that is).

And one more thing: The FF characters faces aren't really meshes...they're nurbs surfaces. Meshes are created from polygons.
Although Nurbs are rendered as polygons.

Why do many think they can see what's done in 2D or in 3D... It's absolutely absurd to just pinpoint everything since you cannot get 100% accurate anyway with yer assumptions (w8 there is a joke here). It's the mind that counts dudes!

I think a sign of someone who's really good at graphics, be it 2d or 3d, is when you can't tell how their images were made.

Affected hit it on the nail. I've heard some of the top ILM artists say they go and watch movies, and don't understand how different effects are done.

But anyway, Tweak got a few names confused: It's not called Alias Maya, it's just Maya. And it's not made by Silicon Graphics, it's made by Alias|Wavefront, a company that's owned by Silicon Graphics.

(For those who can't see the joke in this message, read more carefully.)
