The best friend of digital artist is a art
tablet. Most of people (and Dhab) advise to
use a Wacom tablets. Why Wacom? What about
other brands?
And will be very interesting to know what people think about Intuos, the new Wacom tablets line.

I bought my Wacom Intuous tablet because I had heard wonders about it, and it was reccommended by any artist who used it.. Dhabih included. It's worth it's weight in gold ; it may be pricey, but I love the plug and play, the pressure sensitive pen, I love it all. It only took me a day to get almost as comfortable as with a pencil. I'd wholeheartedly recommend anyone asking to buy a Wacom tablet.

I guess it's a bit like why people use Photoshop: It's established and well-known.
The Wacom pens are also a bit unique. They use something called a 'give-and-take system', which means the pens don't need any batteries or leads. Apparentally, they somehow take their power fron the pad.

I have used a couple brands of tablet and for pure relibability and software support WACOM takes the cake.

Dude, what OTHER tablets???
WACOM is practically the only tablet with use for freehand drawing. All the other ones are for drafting and stuff.

i bought my first and only one tab from buy.com and got it in 2 days
about tablet: Intuos 6x8, i was amazed by its quality and literally TONS of settings, software bundle was kickassy too for any kind of artist

When i first went looking for a tablet i checked the net out first for reviews and stuff and over and over it was wacom. I dont know how the other ones are since i've never tried them, but i think its safe to say wacom is the best. I have the Wacom ArtzII at home, but the Wacom Intuos at work and the difference is very noticable.

The Intuos Tablets are great! I wouldn't go for a large tablet though. Go for something that you can sit in your lap or you'll be fighting the tablet for elbow room. I'm almost at the point where i would trade in my big as honkin 12x12 for something a bit smaller like the 6x8. Even Swap no less! It's just too much of a hassle trying to get comfortable. I say this now, but as soon as i get a 21" monitor... and a big honkin desk to go with it! Man oh man!! You won't be able to pry the 12x12 from me! =)

So in a few words, start with a smaller tablet. Larger ones get in the way. 6x8's are perfect, unless your doing something on a 21" monitor and you run out of tablet before you finish a small line of detail.

And go Wacom. If you have USB support, get the USB version, the smoothness is incredible!

I have an Acecat III. I haven't had anything else to compare it with, but I think it's okay.
