More of question really to everyone in this messageboard. Why dont you guys instead of asking dhabih about his technique and stuff like that, pick up a pencil, paper. Draw every single day!!!!. Go to the museaum, read some books. Come up with your own conclusions on how to work. Im sorry i sound like pissed, but ive been looking around the net for some good work and everyone is busy copying each other. Look at stuff OTHER than image, and top cow comics No flames please it would be cool to have discussion on the subject. Laters.

heya's doc..... *hack hack hack* i luv wyatt earp... anyways, the thing is, is that I do draw everyday, in all 3 periods of school that I can, then I also draw at home. But, sometimes you do need help... such as, I play soccer every single day, but I can still go to a camp to get better. even if you practice practice practice, you can still ask people different techniques to get better.

oh and top cow is kewl !!

Well, for the whole time I've been drawing I have never asked any advice from anyone, I've just learnt it myself. But now when I see all this great work on the computer, I just have no idea about all the technical photoshop stuff and it just completely confuses me. So for once I, like many other people here, am asking for help.

Trust me dude stick to the traditional stuff, it will make u a better artist, Digital or otherwise. What im trying to say, that if you learn to draw, or paint, your digital work (if you wish to go that route) will become infinitely easier and better.

Agreed on that last one. Don't feel that in order to become good at drawing on the computer you have to only use the computer to draw. Practice drawing on paper is just as effective. If you learn to draw a face well one paper, it will end up looking nice when drawn on the computer. Other things like color, texture, lighting..etc however, i prefer to practice on the computer since its easier and cleaner than painting and since thats the medium my final pieces are in.

Digital art is really just another medium, and what you've learned in other mediums will almost certainly carry over. As always, the basics of composition, perspective, color harmony, proportion, anatomy, and whatever else you can think of, will apply to whatever medium you're working in. Only the techniques change.

I think that DOC's just pissed cuz he doesn't have a tablet and he can't afford PhotoShop.
If you're serious about anything at all, you'll devour any possible info on the matter; being aware of all possible techniques doesn't make you a cheater. It's a plus. Nothing good ever comes out of isolation.
Sorry doc, but your opinion is more of a superphilsophy.

Hey Shrimpish, who said anything about it being cheating? Its just that from my experience, those who are good at traditional media usually become great digital artists if they wish to. And about the whole isolation bit, i think you have it the other way around. Many who do digital work usually don't take the time to enjoy the unbelievable art being produced in EVERY medium. I hope i dont sound like anti-digital prick or something, cause im not.

BTW I do have photoshop, painter, and a nice tablet too :P

heh, i failed art in schewl,. got A++ on all my projects, but i was bored in class and art history, they gave us 2 months to work on a project that took me an hour and a half,.i completed it 14 different ways before i got bored actually,. heh i even failed my art classes at college, same scenario. don't think i ever worked on any art for longer than that,. i think as soon as i get my computer back to my place i'll upload a few images somewhere

The statement: "digital art is better than natural art" is just another myth in this modern computer jungle.
The cheapest way of learning making pictures, art etc. is with paper and pencils, patience and time.
The best art is not made with who got what, it's what he did and what's the meaning with it all.

Ofcourse that's my filosophy... and you don't have to give a flying fart about it if you don't wanna.

Cheers!
