I don't know if you mean real full facial hair, like beards and mustaches, or just stubble, so I did up a quick pic to try to show both. For the beard, I just built it up like a solid object, then painted individual strands. For the "stubble", I used the same base color as the skin, but darker, and with a lot more gray, then went over it with Painter's "add grain" brush. Photoshop noise should work just as well.

the hulk's hair is great, man. really. you got some skills man, the self portrait is real good too, the skin is nice. i can see how facial hair can be tough, really tough when it is short. the longer it gets, the more like regular hair it gets.
keep it up man.
peace.

Easiest solution: Shave.

Yep, it will magically make all your self portrait stubble problems disapear!

Recife:

Yeah, all Painter -- I generally only use Photoshop for compositing.

Your two pics look pretty good, especially the self-portrait. Your drawing is pretty solid. I'd work on more pronounced shadows, and more dynamic colors. Your figures have a uniform hue all over -- in nature, nothing is the same color all over. Just slightly varying the color can produce incredible results.

Coincidentally, I have a self-portrait up at http://www.funhousedigital.com/fb-self.jpg.

By the way, hair and clothes are some of the most difficult parts for me too.

A great digital artist named Martin Murphy has a tutorial at http://www.metacreations.com/community/tips/thequeen/ which includes a good bit on doing hair. Check it out!

Thanks for the great link funfetus. i had seen that queen picture before, and i'm always curious as to how people get so intricate with bryce. Its such a powerful program, yet most of the galleries you see on the net dedicated to bryce sport the same generic landscapes. yawn. Personally, i never really got into bryce, but its inspiring when you see what some people do with it-kinda like dhabih with photoshop. On that note, i should say again that your artwork is pretty awesome(funfetus now, not dhabih, we all know his work is awesome). You can definately see how it has evolved over time, and I like how you've tried several different looks whilst keeping your own unique style. Not to knock dhabih, but the images he displays, whilst awesome, tend to be quite similar to each other. Eg. theyre basically all portraits. Id like to see more action shots from dhabih like the turok pic. Anyways, back to you funfetus, keep up the good job and insightful commentary.

Jagov, thanks for all the good comments!

Terrax, I'll think about the shaving thing, but my question was really about how hard it is to make facial hair (especially when they are still growing and not full).

Funfetus, thanks for the links and comments.I'll try to work more on the colors, but its another hard thing for me to do! My hair problem thing is probably cus I use a mouse (no money for wacom ) But in paper I can do really good looking and real hair.Btw, whad do you mean by my drawings being solid? And what would you sugest about the shadows?

Take care

Recife --

By "solid" drawings, I mean that you show good form and proportion. And about the shadows, I just think they ought to be darker, to create more contrast.
